Powdered Bleach Review Roof Cleaning Products

I hear what you're saying Larry, but it would be nice to have, not only a powder form, but also an alternative to liquid hypo. At this point I think it is still an option for anyone willing to work harder needlessly.
I agree with you to point, because it isn't gonna replace liquid hypo in overall effectiveness,....so why even bother chasing it. I've always liked the idea of the CH,..that's what I was using when I first started doing roofs,..and I even used it for my house washes. I didn't have access at that point to a bulk supplier of liquid,..and man, I thought I had it figured out when I found the powder to replace gallon jugs, Ha,Ha,.. Oh I forgot, I was even buying 12.5% from Culligan for a while.
Keeping it from unwanted drying on the surface and any surroundings is the key. It will work for both roof cleaning and house washing,...but like you say,.at this point why bother. But I still say it would be nice to have a powder and an alternative.

Hey Doug, thanks again for the Green Wash. I did try it with liquid hypo so far,..made a nice addition to the roof mix, not sure I'd continue to use it though due to shipping and also the inconsistency of the mix I've seen reported on the Green Wash.

I will be trying it with the CH sometime soon,..I just get to where I'm tired of experimenting and I wanna just get the job done. But I promise you,..I will be trying it soon with CH and report back here.

I think some just use it for augmenting. I don't think AC is selling it, but I could be wrong
I just went and looked, and did not see it offered for sale anymore.

Every now & then, I take few months off from coming to the board. Apparently, I missed quite a bruhaha.

This afternoon, I gave estimate in neighborhood I've never worked in before. Gentleman wants his house & powder coated metal roof cleaned.

On my way out of the neighborhood, saw a guy from GA washing a different house's roof -- same pitch (steep!) and same powder coated metal roof. He was using a surface cleaner, which I'm not too crazy about doing.

I came to the board a little while ago & searched "powder coated roof" & nothing came up worthwhile. It should be known that I rarely just ask questions out of the blue, I respect the time of the members of this community and prefer to read up on a subject first, rather than asking for info that I easily could access myself with a few keystrokes.

Went to yahoo & it directed me to grimescene, which I do not read. Immediately found a post from Chris re: cleaning pcm roofs, but it didn't give me the detail I needed.

So, rather than joining grimescene, I came back here & tuned my search terms. Came across this thread. Wow, just wasted 19 minutes of my life reading nine pages but pretty damn funny.

Anyway...what's the mix you guys like? On grimescene Apple said 1/4-1/2 cup tsp, but no other detail. A little help? I'm too old to be pushing water on a steep, wet, mildew-covered metal roof.

The last thing you want to add to your roof cleaning mix for a metal roof is TSP.
TSP is very effective in shingle and tile roofs, but not for metal.
For metal roofs, a weak shingle roof cleaning type of mix works great. We like to keep the strength of the roof cleaning solution pretty weak, and spray twice, if needed.
Soaps (surfactants) make the metal roofs even slicker, and more dangerous to walk safely on.
I suggest using an added soap ONLY if you are shooting the metal roof, from the ground, or, with a ladder.
There is a chemical called Sodium Metasilicate, and if you can find it, I suggest you add some to your roof cleaning mix.
Not only is it a corrosion inhibitor, it is also extremely high in PH, and can actually boost weak sodium hypochlorite cleaning mixtures.
One ounce of it per gallon will do you just fine.

If you ever need to "find me", I hang out here at www.roofcleaninginstitute.org . We have it set so you can easily log in with your Facebook page. No other crap to fill out. I just happened to be subscribed to this thread.
I am assuming you know you need a dedicated roof cleaning pump, not a pressure washers chemical injector, or an X Jet, etc, etc.
And, I am assuming you know about 12.5% sodium hypochlorite, and know where to buy it ?

yes and yes. thanks to you, buddy.

Yeah this was pretty ugly, bad release of a product to quickly.
Delco famous for these kinds of mistakes. Looking back maybe it was a masterful plan?

Think about it what came next?

Heard the President or Al Gore or someone remarking something about electric cars, about how the disparate technologies are hampering the acceptance, about how the "refueling" stations aren't standard, not enough, etc., and how "we have to decide/agree on what works best"

What the commenter left out is that the success of new technologies/products aren't decided upon. They are offered & either accepted or rejected. Pitfalls surround that path to success.

I don't know what happened in this situation, nor am I going to spend any more time thinking about it. What I DO know is that I, for one, am grateful for tinkerers & amateur chemists on this board who come up with new products/recipes/ideas that all of us benefit from.

I agree, people should research and use guys like Russ who have develop chems with Reps that work

What is a good thing to use if the roof is badly oxidized? I have 1 coming up that has a lot of oxidation on it and I have not had a lot of experience with that.

Have any pictures of it ?

No I dont. If I rub it with my finger a lot of chalky substance comes off, and I tried a small test spot with a weak shingle cleaning solution and it didnt help at all.

I use Powder all the time on My Pool Deck, every time I spill the Shock I scrub it right in and Rinse. Looks great
What powder are you talking about Ron? The CH?
