Pressure Washing Accident!!!

Here is another a good reason why DIY'ers should leave Pressure Washing and Roof Cleaning to the professionals. Look what can happen even when someone supposedly knows what they are doing. I hope this guy will be OK. Be careful out there guys!

That is a shame, hope he is ok.

You always have to be careful when mixing chemicals and sometimes chemicals will explode when you mix the wrong ones together.

If you are dealing with flammable mixtures and smoking that is not a good idea either.

The firefighters do not know what chemicals he was mixing or if he was smoking at the time but the accident will probably have impacts in that community like tighter regulations on chemicals or proper labeling on all containers (there should always be labels on all containers of chemicals at all times) in case there is an accident like this one so they know what they are dealing with and what precautions to take if it was worse.

Typically we don't use any flammable chemicals to clean houses, roofs, concrete, heavy equipment, trucks, buildings, etc.... Makes you wonder if he was dealing with flammable chemicals or if it was a reaction of mixing 2 different chemicals together that are not supposed to be mixed together.

Does anyone know this guy or if he is ok?

He's probably fine. It looks like he mixed "reliable" (ox) with something else. I am guessing bleach for DSing a driveway. Maybe he thought the bucket was cleaned out.

I use the same sprayers all the time. I do however flush them out like a madman.

Its all about SEO!

Its all about making sure that guys are carefull about mixing the wrong chems together. This seems to be happening way too often. :banghead:

Yeah, and business models.

How far is this from Orlando?

If this guy only had access to a good motivational speaker this could have been avoided.

Thats exactly what I was thinking when I saw the bucket on the news clip.

The article doesn't tell you much, I'm very pretty ignorant to driveway cleaning :ignore:

But have cleaned many a dumpster pad and greasy walkways / sidewalks...ect.

When mixing chems my smoking never interfered. :crazy_pilot:

I saw that report on the 6:00 news that night. At that time they said he mixed clorine and a rust remover that together made a chemical explosion.

Note to self.......Do not mix Chlorine and a rust remover...:slap: unless I am looking for an instant tan.

Most of the household cleaners have warnings on the bottles telling you to not mix that chemical with other kind of chemicals.

For us that buy chemicals in large quantities, the warning is on the MSDS that you should get from your chemical supplier when you buy chemicals.

A good rule of thumb is don't mix acid with most any other chemicals out there.

The fact that he was mixing bleach with a rust remover does not makes sense to begin with. Bleach is an alkaline. Rust removers are acids. Mixing the two at MINIMUM will cancel each other out. We learn that about the pH scale in school. I really hope the guy is okay. I really don't like that here is a guy who is a "professional" in homeowner's eyes that did not do something correct.

It makes you think if the people in surrounding areas are now going to be more cautious of hiring pressure washing contractors or if they will ask them questions like "Do you mix your own chemicals?" or if it will be harder to find work or maybe even if customers try to hire more professional looking or sounding contractors so hopefully their house will not be on the 6' O Clock news.

It might have been that the bucket was not totally empty of the acid and was using the bucket to mix up some mix for house washing or roof cleaning to add to the larger tank.

Until he recovers and tells exactly what he was doing then we probably will not ever know.

I was thinking didn't they make chemical weapons by mixing cholorine with acid. I am pretty sure thats how you make cholorine gas. I couldn't get the video to play was there an actual fire or just a chemical explosion?
