More crazy questions:

1. What brand(s) of pump is the most reliable (or is this a Ford/ Chevy question)?
2. What brand(s) of pumps are the easiest to rebuild?
3. What brand(s) of pumps are the parts easy to find?
4. Does anyone run an hour meter on their unit?
5. If so what kind of life do you get out of your pump before rebuild?

5) I do roughly 4 Hood Cleanings and some concrete cleanings a week average about 20 Hours a week . One machine is 3 years old it has a general pump T- Series -- Still getting 3000 at 4gpm// might rebuild it after this summer.. But it is still kicking.. The parts are cheaper than CAT and Easy to find,,,
 
I think it is a toss up between cat and general. Cat is the most durable and long lasting I have ever owned. I bought 2 of them 8 years ago and they are still in service, although one is frozen to a bad engine and I can't use it so I bought a general. The Cat pumps cost more initially and the rebuild is more expensive but they last longer than any other pump I have found. General is a reliable and easy to work on pump and the parts are usually not that expensive. ( I agree with John on the "T" series) I have also found more people carry General pumps and parts than they do Cat pumps and parts.
I don't think I have saved any money owning a Cat pump but I know I have worked on them less.
No Hour meter but they get used about 16- 20 hours a week and the General pump will go a year without being repacked, the Cat maybe 1 1/2 - 2 years, and the Honda GX, well, 1 is six years old and the only thing wrong is it is a little fussy to start when cold. GO HONDA

I Haven't been in the Business long...

But I guess you can say I have had a unique experience with a Cat Pump.

I bought my set up used. Read my signature to see what I have.. I got everything. Including the trailer. The tag on the trailer expired in Jan 01. I bought this last August. It has been sitting underneath a Deck for about 3 years. I bought the set up and took it to a Machine Shop I was working at to give it some maitanence. I wanted to give it a little tug just to get some Gas flowing through. But I didn't realize the Switch on the motor was on. I barely cranked it (One of those light cranks you use to get gas in the motor) and it started up. That was with 3 year old gas that had water in it. And same oil. I did replace the Cat Pump oil though. But without doing anything to the Pressure Washing Unit it's self I still use the Pressure Washer with out changing anything so far.

Note: I did change the Gas and Oil in the Pressure Washer right after that.

But doing that I will always use a Honda Motor and have come to like Cat Pumps really well.

Now saying that and jenksing myself I'm going to go ahead and place an Order in the Northern Tool catalog for a new Cat pump because I'm sure it is going to explode tommorow.
