PWNA Certification

I wanted to see if anyone has taken the PWNA kitchen exhaust cleaning certification program. Was it worth the time and money? Did it effectively prepare you for the type of work you are doing? Any additional ifo is appreciated. Thanks, Dan

Dan,

If you would like send me an e-mail and I'll get you references of those who have taken the class recently. Or, you could call the PWNA office and request references 1-800-393-7962. I am sure we can get that information to you. I am assuming you are thinking of attending the Boot Camp in Lancaster, PA. If you do perhaps I'll see you there. Contact me if I can be of any help eabrams@deckrestorationplus.com

Dan,

I have heard that the PWNA program sets you up to pass the PWNA Cert Test. They go over the Q's and A's. Don't think you'll come away as an authority on NFPA 96, OSHA and the mechanical code. You'll come away with a gentlemen's knowledge of the subject, enough to discuss it and try it out.

On the other hand, it's practically in your backyard, so for about a grand it's the best you're going to get, short of a full out school. The certification is designed to make you a responsible hood cleaner, so if there is a fire in a place you have serviced their insurance company attorney can sternly look at you in court and say, "And you call yourself certified! You should have known better." As it is now, the same scenario, the attorney will look at you and say."Why aren't you certified. You should have known better."

It boils down to your choice. I'd go for it.

From what I've seen PWNA or IKECA both do an excellent job.

Has IKECA managed to buy PWNA's exhaust side, or have they backed off that idea yet? Last I heard there were some heated phone calls going back and forth trying to negotiate the finer points of working together.

There new name could be PICA. Powerwasher's International Certification Association.

I might be wrong but I think they are going with: CHUTZPAH, INTERNATIONAL as the new name. "Certified Hood United Technicians Zealously Protecting American Hoods, International."

Rusty how Many Cleaners certified now?
