Had a customer ask if Id pressure wash thier wood siding on thier house. They want this done to prep for painting. I havent done this before so I turned them down.

I would like to hear what tips and techniques you all have, and use for this kind of work. And how do you price it? By the hour, square feet? Etc
Thanks

For vinyl siding I use basic store brand bleach. Which I use on most of my jobs but I'm learning new chemicals here and there. With bleach you can watch the mildew and other junk melt off just from using a low pressure nozzle. But I know there are more chemcals out there.

I washed a friends wood sided house not to long ago who was prepping for paint. I used straight up bleach. He got it painted and said it looks awesome. So I guess it worked.

I wouldn't turn too many jobs down. It's always worth a shot. I turned down a deck job recently because he wanted me to seal, stain, and all kinds of other stuff. I told him that is something a little more for a deck specialist. But I'm trying to learn that because there is moeny in that.

And I'd charge them by the job. As in look at the house and think what it is worth to you.

I avoid stripping paint mostly due to the mess and EPA. It is a bear getting all those paint chips picked up. I would prefer to scrape it dry and let it land on plastic than to blow it over the whole yard with pressure.
Just my opinion, I think you did right to avoid it.
