I am seeing a lot more tradesmen doing roof cleaning, PW, and paver sealing in this area. They are also KILLING the prices. A potential customer called me asking me why my quote to clean, seal & sand 700 sq ft of pavers came to nearly $600. He has recieved 3 other quotes for $200 to $250. I explained to him the process and that my cost of materials alone where 200-250. I have not heard back form him yet. I Have seen guys advertising $ .34 a sq I didnt actually think they did it for that.

I have noticed a lot of hacks are popping up and i have lost several bids lately. I have even lost a few properties that I have done more than once, losing them to lower bidders. I am still having a very good year, but I can see whats going on and I am concerned

Attached is a fax flier or letter I have just started working on, I will be adding more, like things to ask a contractor etc etc

As much as the lowballing bugs me, I have seen the work that they do and they are ripping people off with having no clue how to clean and it will & is hurting the image of our industry

I like your flyer Jeff. I think you should list some of the questions to ask a contractor, or tell people to visit you site to learn what to ask.

Just started it, but yes i am going to add the questions people should ask. I got a million things I am thinking of, I just got to make it fit and look professional. I know this possibly isnt the best way of advertising, but there are so many hacks that are screwing things up I just figured I would give it a try and maybe inform some people

like I told you on the phone I like it
it will make some pms or gms more aware and some just don't care they just want the lower price
weve also talked about this some of the companies are finding thier way into these properties thourgh the board and not the pms

Yes Kory, it is BAD, and you would be SUPRISED who the lowballers actually are:(

Chris, please choose a better word. Please

I heard a large roof cleaning outfit was coming to FL, they open up yet?

Did John inlist some large roof companys?

I like jeff's idea for promotion through education, and can understand his motives for doing this. Is this something that individual contractors could have success with alone? Or is it an approach that would be more effective coming from a representative body... Whether that be a group of local contractors, regional body or national organization.

I know it may be slightly elitist, but if it helps raise standards both contractors and customers stand to benefit.

Just a thought...

On a side note, any thoughts on a Florida group or north/central/south groups?perhaps this could be on agenda for 19th July?
