Servicemagic

I became a member after my 2nd yr. in business. I have had some great jobs and some not so great. Alot of tire kickers but alot of solid leads turned to repeat customers. I made around 10k from them last year and this is my 3rd yr with them. More each year so far. But it can be a chore with them sometime. Ultimately once a member, you have the option to use them whenever you like. Simply turn them on or turn them off.

It helps if you are in close to the more urban higher populus areas.
Out in the rurals is least likely to be favorable.

Some hate Service Magic and some love them.
They are what you make of them.

If you have 100.00 bucks for membership and 15-20 per lead cost for your coverage area go for it!
You can always cancel membership, or "turn them off".

Hate 'em

I hate them. I could understand sending someone a commission for guaranteed work, but not for a dead lead. Complete waste of money IMO.

I use them but this year I have received no jobs as a result. I did get two jobs at a town home center last year that paid well so I kept the service up. This year all the leads I get are 40 or 60 miles away and single homes. I don't even follow up on them. If you are in a heavily populated area like Adrian said, it is probably a much better closing rate.

I use them for leads and some are good and some are bad. I will say that the good outways the bad,the way I look at it is you win some and lose some. The biggest job I have gotten from them is $8000.00 the smallest was a patio for $ 125.00

simplyzipcodes.com has helped me refine my service area with them.
You can target higher end areas.

I've been a member for probably 10 years now but I haven't accepted a lead from them in over 5 years. I created something similiar to them but I don't charge for it. Register your company here and get free leads: www.pressurewashcompany.com

I was contacted today by Service Magic. Offered no sign up fee, no background check fee, free website, and no contract. I see mixed emotions from some of you. Would like a little more input on whether it is worth it and are they an honest company.

Here is how it works, a person wanting to have some work done contacts them *****(they might not be serious, probably just price shopping like in the phone book)***** and then Servicemagic sends out the info to 3 contractors....you and 2 of your competitors.

Now these 3 companies call the customer and try to sell them or educate them on who is better for the job.

Depending on your experience, selling ability, knowledge, etc.... that will be a part of how the homeowner decides, IF THEY ARE EVEN SERIOUS ABOUT HAVING SOMETHING DONE, SOMETIMES THEY ARE JUST PRICE SHOPPING but you and the other 2 contractors pay the $12.00 each.

They can credit your account (not your credit card) until the next lead comes in and then take the $12.00 back out.

Some areas people have good luck but I got 5 bogus leads in a little over a year and dropped them.

You never know, you might get good quality customers that are serious about having work done and are not price shopping.

I only know 3 or 4 guys on the boards that have good luck with them, I did not have good luck in my area.

There are older threads about Service magic, just do some searching and read what others posted.

I actually talked to them yesterday about joining, almost did and then backed out at the last minute. If you bargain with them they will cut the $99 to join to $49...

No actually they will cut the join to nothing providing they receive so many leads for others they can try and sign. They should just do away with it altogether as it is a turn off but apparently it is a way to bring in newbie.

Chris is right on with how it works..they may give lead to like 3-4 guys but they may also give only to you if there is no one else around. There is also a way a customer can choose a perticular guy but that is far and few between.

I signed up a few weeks ago. Im the only guy in my area signed up that only does exterior cleaning. The rest of them are painters and handymen.
But the first lead I recieved was from a lady wanting her open porch to be screened in, when I called her she told me that she hit the wrong button. Which costed me $12. Yes I disputed it, but like Chris said they only credit your account, not actually a refund. One lead and one bad feeling for me.

They just called me again about a week ago!! by the time i got done with him, he was asking me for a job!!

They SUCK!!!

Very poor leads. But if you get it for free, and a web page I would try in your area.
