Stencil Marketing

I have been considering doing a different kind of marketing that I just heard about. It was use in residential on sidewalk, but I want to use it in the commercial aspect. Basically what I want to do is buy a stencil with my company name, logo, phone number, and website. Maybe not all of that, not sure. Then at night time go around to commercial buildings like restaurants, banks, stores, and many other commercial places where traffic comes by and place my stencil there. I want to know if any of you have tried this sort of marketing and what is your take on it. I know some of you have stencils for demo purposes, but what I’m talking about is just randomly leaving my stencil at different locations. I have some brochures already that I want include in their door with an estimate as well. I would want to this sort in your face marketing to get people’s attention. But I am worried about the negative reaction I might get.

What you're describing, in my opinion, would be no different than graffiti.

I agree. You should call and ask permission to give a demo, without permission I could see this going very wrong for you and your company. You will end up cleaning some sidewalks for free to fix your "tag".

I have a stencil but I don't use it for demo purposes only and with the permission of the property manager or restaurant manager. Right after the demo then it's usually washed off.

Come to think of it, last time I checked my stencil was in my garage stashed away some place, it's been over a year since I've even used it.

I had a former competitor in town do this to a mall.......once. It didn't go over well to say the least!

Chris has done it with success at the back of restaurants. One time he did one at the front entrance and that didn't go as well.

Somewhere someone has in their signature, "stencils are for those that can't sell". Always get a chuckle when I see that.

I have used my stencil with good results, I say try it and see how it goes, a lot of times people don't realize how dirty their property is.

You never know until you try.

It is like that saying, you would hate to look back on life wondering "what if".

I was thinking the same thing. After searching "stencil" here on this site, I changed my mind. Long story short: Be prepared to remove it by completing the entire job for free... That's hustling backwards my friend!
