Alright before I get everybody tellin me to buy gigger and better I DONT HAVE TIME. (or the money)

So... that bein said, I've got to buy a surface cleaner in the morning and IN MY PRICE RANGE for tomorrow I see two here local.

1 - 16" whirlaway @ $339.00
2 - 20" Gen. Pum @ 349.00

If YOU were poor and had to make the choice, Which is the lesser of two evils?
 
how big is your machine?
 
What really matters is what psi and gpm your machine is, not what you can afford.

A good rule of thumb is around 4-5 inches in diameter per gpm.

There has been a debate on sizes for surface cleaners from a while back but depending on your machine, that determines how big of a surface cleaner you will be comfortable with.

Sure you could use a bigger machine but you will be walking slower and slower to watch for swirls where a smaller surface cleaner will let you walk a little faster.

I used to use my Steel Eagle 24" surface cleaner on one commercial account and it always took around 2 hours to do. When I tried out the 19" Whisper Wash Classic, I cut the time by 30 minutes.

There are some mods you can do to make the surface cleaner more adaptable to your working conditions but what really matters is what you need based on your machine and what you can afford.

Between those choices, I would look a little bit more if you could as the General is a piece of junk from several guys on the boards. Whirl A Way is better but Whisper Wash is even better than that.
 
I would save up and get a better unit. Your going to have to spend the extra money eventually when the cheap unit breaks. Then you've spent money on the good one as well as the cheap one that broke. You end up paying more. If you need it right away for a job, look for a place to rent one.

If you still insist, get the 16".

its kinda rough that you gotta have it by tomorrow, but the whirlaway is not bad I have a 20'' unit for about 4 years and only replaced the swivel once (but I don't use it much anymore since I got a bigger hydro twister
 
I think were (night owls) all saying please pray for america and get your guns ready. Also don't make too much money next year or for the next 4 for that matter. Were in for a long road

IMO - Whirl a way - GARBAGE - but the GP is RAW SEWAGE ! Get the Whisper wash Classic unless you have plenty of time to NOT WORK because of repairs :cool:
 
Wait for Osama to get in and you can get whatever surface cleaner you want for free. Plus he will pay for your house and free gas.
 
I have the General Pump and it works great. It makes me money which is the bottom line. Sure there are better ones out there but for now its not a bad one.
 
Use it for a while and if you like it keep it. If not sell it. Go out and make some money first. You can always upgrade later.
 
I guess I need to apologize for my comment BUT I have been through soooo many surfacers, until I started using whisper wash products I was replacing rotary unions every 3 to 4 months , but ours get a lot of use. We have had some of our Big Guys for over 2+ years and just now had to rebuild the first rotary union (swivel)
 
No need to apologize. Everyone on here has there own opinion and what works or doesn't work for them. My full time job is a Firefighter and my side business is pressure washing so I'm not using it all day everyday. The GP surface washer works good for now but I'm sure I will upgrade to a better unit once this one wears out. For the money its not bad.
 
3.5 will indeed push the 20. I have pushed it with a small unit. I have a small
5.5 honda mounted on the front of my trailer I use only for emergencies and clean up and I needed it one day and it worked fine. Just a little slower.
 
Get the 16" if you have not done so already, you will not regret that size, only the brand.
