New member
Hello Everyone, members of the PWNA and members not yet joined.

Wecome to what I intend to be a wonderfaul vehicle of communication between the power washer and the Power Washers of North America (PWNA).

I am very excited about many of the changes that are being initiated as we speak.
Probably the first change is what your reading. An open Bulletin board designed to answer any and all questions regarding the PWNA, its benifits and goals.

First of all, I'd like to thank fellow member Ron Musgraves for allowing the PWNA to host its own Forum called the "PWNA Today".

For those of you who are in the pressure washing industry and don't even know that there is a national organization representing you, I'd like to say Welcome, and if you are considering membership please call 1-800-393-PWNA and request a membership packet (free of charge)and one will be sent to you. Tell em Chris sent you!

PWNA's Mission Statement

The PWNA is the recognized leader in developing and communicating the highest standards in ethical business practices, environmental awareness, and safety through continuing education and active representation of the membership. PWNA educated and trained contractors raise the level of professionalism and value to their customers.

The reason I said all that was to say, It's absolutely true, It is what has helped grow my little deck washing business into a national concern.
Now let me get off my Presidential soap box and discuss what everyone really wants to hear.

The PWNA just celebrated it's 10th year anniversary by holding its annual meeting in Miami, Fl.To further enhance this anniversary celebration the convention was followed by a 3-day pleasure cruise to the Bahamas on the Royal Caribbean cruise line's Majesty Of The Seas, and was very affordable, I might add.

Let me first fill y'all in on some new happenings.
Elections were held this spring by our members.
Two new contractors wre nominated and elected

John Hartley, 24/7 clean, Signal Hill, Ca.
Mike Hughes, Everclear, Montgomeryville, Pa.
Tom Daughtry, Coast & Valley, Norcross, Ga. Welcome Guy's

Executive board elections;
Secretary, Barbars Sivells, Empire Spraying Systems, Fairdale, Ky.
Treasurer, Daryl Mirza, Ducts Unlimited inc, Gurnee, Il.
2nd Vice President, Doc Reisman, Admiral power Wash, South Bend In.
1st vice President, Tom Bickett, Combined Cleaning Inc. Princeton, Il.
President, Chris Detter, Sun Brite, Inc. Lawrenceville (Atlanta) Ga.

The next PWNA convention will be this fall in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Then next Spring in Las Vegas, Nv. start making plans now.
Now Let's kick it up a notch!

Most of you already know that the PWNA is the largest association of power wash contractors, distributors, suppliers. and manufacturers.
The basic reason we are here is for you the pressure washer, We strive to keep you abreast of changing economic, environmental and equipment changes. and speaking of changes let me tell you of some of the things we are working on now.

Remember thes are in addition to the already existing benifits"

1. Increased membership is a large concern and this will be accomplished by the following.
2. National Vendor Discount program, The board will be contacting and convincing vendors all over the nation to begin a discount program to members (A REAL DISCOUNT PROGRAM) not just some pie in the sky thing, (My company has already started it, I give 5% off to members.)
3. National exposure to members, by local and regional advertising, press releases in local papers, recognizing members and certified contractor. headings like (Are you using a PWNA certified contractor?)
4.Member paid subscriptions to Cleaner Times Magazine.
5.Bulletin board access for cleaning and technique information. The formation of the IRT committee(internet response team)
(not just me on my soapbox.)
6. Revamping the PWNA's web site to include things like Contractor certification listings, Chat rooms, technical seminars for wood restoration & sealing, Kitchen Exhaust cleaning, Environmental seminars. continuing education credits on line. suggestion boxes, What's for sale? on-line auction. On-line store. list of members (map finders)
7. Revamping our Mentoring program, possible on-line too. but will be a network binder issued to all members for quick reference when in need of help (RIGHT NOW).
8. State& regional representative offering PWNA and vendor sponsored gatherings.
9.Certification programs offered at all conventions, Wood, Kitchen Hood, Evironmental. more to come (Safety is in the works)
10.Certification patches for shirts and vehicles (with company phone numbers).

There are other ideas in the works now but I cannot let y'all know everything right now.
I opoligize for taking so long to get on here, I will try to get on this thread a little more regulary once the dust settles, Meanwhile the other moderators Mike Hughes , Pete Marentay and Doc reisman will try to get quick responses to your questions.

Thank you for your years of support and I promise I will not let the members down, the PWNA will be the organization you will want to belong to if your serious about becoming a successful pressure washing business. Chris Detter President PWNA

I’m happy to have you host the forum.

I look forward to some great conversation and some good ideas that can come from the knowledge of many rather than a few.

Having made this effort to be online and talk about the issues makes me feel as though you guys a really are willing to take some steps to better the organization. Realizing as a businessperson it takes money to make changes. I also realize the organization only has 300 or 400 members. That’s 100,000 a year of the membership and I know that’s not a lot of money to get all the things that need to be done completed. Knowing all the board donate there time and the members should as well.

Chris I hope you can lay out a vision of what’s to come in the next few years and that some goals can be put out here in black & white. Together we can try to make the organization stronger and realize that one man is not going to change this situation but the help of many as a team can offer some hope.

I have joined the PWNA as member not to receive benefits. I don’t think they offer many. I believe that we as a group can make changes and differences in and organization. I can see that Chris wants to make a mark on this organization and is trying to step it up a notch.

If you’re a member please don’t have the attitude that this organization is going to make you rich. it wont……. what it can do for you is give you and advantage over those who do not belong. Not because of sheer membership but how you can use it and help other grow as well as yourself.

I’m not looking at the PWNA as a charity, I’m trying to help them make a difference in this field. I want to hear more than a mission statement but want to see a plan to make this all mean something when the smoke clears.

Its and old cliché its not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country. If only every member could develop and attitudes like this for two years the PWNA could be a large organization to assist its members with real help. Real benefits with huge savings.

Membership carries power, if we where 3000 strong and had 10 time the money now? Would things be different?????? 750,000

Dan S.,

The cost for membership is $250 per year. Our next show is in Pittsburgh, PA in the fall...........your neck of the woods. I hope to see you there! Usually, the registration fee for the shows is less for members then it is for non-members.

This maybe a dumb question but here it is. If your a PWNA member, is Chris D. stating that the PWNA pays for your Cleaner Times subscription or is that a future proposal?

I am a PWNA member to the end of March then I plan on renewing to show support for Mike/Chris and the PWNA in gerneral so maybe they can make those planned changes that they have in mind.

Anyway I always paid for my own subscription for Cleaner Times thats why I'm asking this question.

Thanks

If you are a member you will receive cleaner times at no charge. Run your subscription out.

Hey Everyone ,
Let me try and clarify one of the new PWNA Benifits that actually has already begun.
I thought it best to contact Jim McMurry, General Manager of Cleaner Times Magazine.
Hopefully this will help..Thanks Chris Detter

Thank you for your call and concern for the members of PWNA. Let me try to clarify the "double subscription" situation as best I can. Your members are now receiving Cleaner Times as a benefit of membership to PWNA. They should have begun receiving those copies in January. As you know, many of those members were already receiving the magazine, having paid for it themselves. To compensate for this, we gave all who were in this category an "extension" of their subscription by the number of months remaining that were paid. For example, if a subscriber had 6 months remaining on a paid subscription when PWNA began paying for the magazine in January, he still has 6 months remaining that is "on hold." It (his paid subscription) will pick back up if and when his current subscription with PWNA expires and continue for the remaining 6 months. I hope that helps to answer the question, but if any of your members still have questions please ask them to contact me at Jim@adpub.com.

Chris and Mike,...

Unfortunately, for PWNA, I did not renew my membership this year...BUT..if all you say is going to happen, or at least an attempt will be made, I will reconsider on my decision.

Try to help me on this one though...My brother in law joined in November, I think,..well...in mid December, he was hit head on by 4 teenage drunken idiots. Since then, he has not been able to return to work or wash. He is still bed-ridden to this day. I have bought almost all of his equipment to try to help his family out with finances. He will probably not get to work until about August, the doctor's say. I talked to Andrew in mid January about a refund on his fees due to hardship...He asked me too fax him a letter depicting the circumstances, as I did, and nothing has been done so far. If you can help out, please try to do so, because he is one of us.

Thanks,
Jordan

Jordan,

I am so sorry about your brother- in- law, man thats as bad as it gets, thank God he wasn't killed.

I just called The PWNA headquarters and spoke with Andrew, he remembered getting the letter, but was getting ready for the Miami convention at the time and has not been able to respond.

Of course we will refund Rick's membership dues. If a guy can't work, can't support his family, it's the least the organization can do. We are cutting a check today....

Thanks for letting us know, your a great brother-in-law.

Chris Detter :)

Chris,
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I really enjoyed speaking with you on the phone yesterday...maybe things will change with you at the helm.

What's up Doc?(teeheehee) Thanks for the kind words.

See you guys in Pittsburgh this fall.

Jordan

This subject brings up a question How many of us have Long Term Disability Insurance. I don't, but will check into it.
