unloader question

It depends on the type of unloader, but there is one really simple test that you can do.
Start the machine
With a Pair of Needle Nose pliers get a grip on the bypass line.
Hold the gun open so that water is coming out of it with one hand, and pinch the line with the pliers enough to restrict the flow going through it.
IF the pressure suddenly increases, it is likely the unloader.

Check the by-pass. With the trigger squeezed or your normal flow coming out your wand, look at your by-pass, if water is being by-passed. ie water coming out of your by-pass connection while holding the trigger to your wand open, then more than likely your unloader is stuck or bad. If you have a trigger activated wand and you release the trigger and your unit dies or bogs down, probably the unloader. Most times (unless the unloader is very old) what happens is you get a very small piece of debris stuck in the unloader. Take it apart and clean it thoughly, be careful of the 'O' rings or better yet replace them as you re-assemble.

If the unloader is pinched off that won't tell you if it is bad. That would just tell you there is water bypassing thru the unloader. Too small of a tip will cause the unloader to bypass water. So that is not a way to tell if it is bad.

1) Is the machine a hot or cold machine?
If so the problem may not be the unloader.
The coils could be plugged or scaled up.

2) What size tip are you using?

3) What is the flow and psi of your machine?

4) What type of unloader do you have?
Flow or Pressure?
