Walking Away.......

We've all been there before (I guess). Its good money, you know you can do it, but you know that its going to come back to bite you. The customer is going to nickel and dime you death, and you're going to have to come back on a job that is DONE! I've got one right now, I need the money badly, I'm struggling what to do, but I believe it takes so much more courage to walk away when you need it and know you can't win, then to do the work. Felt like this before? Wished you had walked away? Do any work that comes your way where you can make money, or walk away?

There have been some that I had that gut feeling about and found out later that it would have been a bad deal like they screwed another contractor out of paying them by acting like they did not do a good job.

I have only done a few jobs where I regretted it.

Haha, funny you made this post. I just had one that I should have walked on. I knew it from the start. I had the gut feeling and sure enough, they turned out to be total idiots.

Don't walk, RUN!

I think everyones situation is different, me personally i would walk. But that does'nt make it right for you?

I always use my Gut feeling when it comes to stuff like this.

There are some jobs you can't afford to take.

If it feels bad going in it will probably just get worse.

Been there and done that and always regretted it when I went against my gut feelings.

If this job is the difference between paying your electric bill and not, you have to do it.

Dont let them nickle and dime you. Under promise. Tell them before you even do it it may not be great. Do what you can to try and make them not using you their idea not yours. They'll appreciate the honesty, and be less picky about the work you do, because hey, THEY wanted YOU. Worst case scenario? They just go with someone else.

Hey....wanna to give you guys an update! Desperate times call for desperate measures and I went ahead and did the job. I waited about five days before posting (just in case), but all went really well, I even got a tip. My customer was completely neurotic over the phone, but incredibly welcoming when I did the work. I guess you just really never know, but I know, in reality, I got really lucky and dodged a bullet. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts!

That's great to hear, Marc.
We all need to hear about the ones that went right every once in a while.

Glad it worked out for you, that is good.
