First time post on this board, Hello to all.. Been in business for about one year now.. Done mostly house washes, decks part time. Will be going to school soon for vent-a-hoods at delco..My question to board is , Does it not make sense to buy cold water p/w with a hotbox, To myself it seems on some jobs you just dont need to run hot water.. Less hours on machine.. seems cheaper also for purchase.
... Please correct this rookie!!!!

thanks

Matt

first of all let me welcome you to this site.

I think you will find answers to most of your pressure washing questions here. To help others is the reason we exist.

you mentioned that you have been cleaning for around one year primarily doing houses and decks. Congratulations! I think I would probably step up to a hot water machine whether it would be an addition of a hot box or a complete hot water unit. If it was me I would probably purchase a hot water unit. Some commercial applications really demand the use of hot water. With a hot water unit you will be able to not only do residential by turning off the burner and running cold water but you have the option to use hot water for those stubborn situations. my recommendation would be something along the lines of a 5@3000 unit.

If you are financially challenged at the moment and possibly cannot afford a new unit you might want to check down in the contractor for sale section. once in a while someone usually ends up selling something at a reasonable price.

I think quite a few of the people who frequent this WebSite are pretty decent and basically honest. So, if you purchased something used it would probably be exactly like they said it was.

Hot Box

First of all welcome to one of the most fantastic source of information you will ever run up on for free.
My feelings on the HOT BOX is that .......I haven't been in business for long and I found a reasonably good deal on a Hot Box I got it because it threw me into a new direction in my pressure washing. This is crawl before you walk time in my business and it sounds that way in yours.
If I were designing a trailer it would not have a hot box just because of the external power supply and stuff like that but to add on to an existing unit so you won't have to throw down 5 frand or so on a completely new system I say go for the HOT BOX. You can always plug into power at the restaurant you are doing ...........at least for the time being.
Look at these super rigs these folks have and know that you can attain this also after you have planned it out and made it work.
Continued success.

I started about 2 years ago cleaning houses/decks with a cold water machine. I did not need hot water...until my first commercial account. I then added a hot box for about $750 and only carry it when I need the hot water, which is usually 3-4 times/month. If power is a problem, I can use my Y2K-Trading Post-generator.

Since you obviously have a machine, unless you are contemplating replacing it, I would get the hot box. Oh, and don't forget the surface cleaner!
