What is the best way to start

I have a few questions to ask if someone could help.I am wanting to start pressure washing some houses now that i,m layed off.My questions are do i need to get some type of insurance to cover me.If so what do you reccommed.I,m new at this have only done my house ,decks,inlaws house.I have a 11 hp honda 3200 psi 4 gpm will this be ok to start with.Any input on the best way to start will be appreciated.

sorry to hear that you were laid off from your job. However, wanting to get into the pressure cleaning business is a good thing. Let's talk about insurance......always a mandatory thing to have. Might want to try J.P. Walters their information is on the Delco bulletin board. That is the only thing that I know of. You will probably receive other posts on the insurance subject shortly from others.

Sounds like you already have some fairly decent minimal experience as far as pressure cleaning goes. Keep on going !!

As far and your machine I think you are right on the money with what you have. And I believe others will agree

Also just getting started

I have read that some suggest picking one area to focus and specialize at, such as deck and fence. I can see where that could work, but also being able to do full residential, such as house, driveway, decks and fence. I am also curious about new construction clean up, but would that require interior cleaning and debris hauling?

Come out and do some decks and houses with Rod. We could use the hands, you need the knowledge/training/experience.

You're waaaaaay east of us, and from what I can see it looks like you should be in beach house/ waterfront mecca! :) Look at the neighborhoods and the cars, and I think you'll see right away that there is enough for you.

OK, let's go for after 'practice' and try to get some business (and money) lined up.

I would like to have a few people/companies to do, maybe sub-work, initially. It seems that would allow me to get a litle more comfortable, and bring in some income to aquire equipment and supplies. If this is at all in line, who/what is the better approach? Or would soliciting with literature be better? I want to build skill, but I don't have an open budget. Plus would like to get rolling during this season.


Also, I live very close to a large lake. Docks everywhere, but seems like EPA and Corps of Engineers would be a hassle.

Here's an Idea

Read all you can about powerwashing via bb's, Trade magazines(Blastmaster/Cleaner Times).

Buy start up equipment such as 3000psi@4gal/min Cold water PW with attachments(Wands, Nozzles etc.) a ladder and step ladder. Extension wand and a few other items. Get Insurance to cover your butt and a contractors Lic. if needed.

Learn as you go and stay away from the very technical things in the beggining such as stripping decks or Vent-a-hood cleanings untill you feel comfortable with doing the basic things such as cleaning a Vinyl sided house or cleaning/sealing a deck.

Once you build confidence then take on whatever you think you can handle.
