You vs. Them

What sets your business apart from your competition?

With most of us charging around the same price for our services, what do you do to keep the food on the table?

Besides some of us having other jobs along with our Powerwashing businesses like I do to help put food on the table, I think what seperates Us from the Others In the PW field is a couple of things.

THese ones stick out the most:
SELL SELL SELL

REPUTATION(There's that word again).

BELIEVING in yourself=CONFIDENCE

I'll add this, that none of the above is easy. At least not for me. I work hard on all the above. Sometimes I slack at the SELL SELL SELL part because I can but I can't be as succesfull as I want to be without Selling. SO I will work harder at that.

Well said C.C. P.W I could not agree with you more, If I could add just a few that popped in my head reading Mark's post....

With out R & R I would not be as well off as I am now, Just have one of the R,s right now, Just hope I can get the repeats...

More and more I learn how to sell, I even cut them off in drive ways to stop and sell something... But I know I have to...

AND IT STINKS!!!!!!!

Sell quality work and not price, that is one of the things that sets me apart.

In other words don't compete on price.

You will win some and lose some that way but the ones you win are the ones you want anyway.

i cant speak for the competition, but my strongest asset is my reliability,i put my customers first and my life second, and i never let them down,i seem to get a lot of calls from my accounts that are always an emergency and have to be addressed immediately, which usually puts me working 7 days a week, till 10 or 11 at night, and sometimes working even in the rain.

ps. i just made the quickest $300 i ever made tonight on such a last minute job that needed to be done today 1 hour and 15 minutes.

O so true Jon,

I try very hard to never be late for a job or put jobs off, if you put off jobs then they will back up!

never make a promise ,I cant keep!

and just like Tim, I did a job last week that had to be done $6,750.00 , total time 20 hrs , this guy new i would get the job done.

MARK W,

Great post, I think the most important thing that sets me apart is sales ability.

Educating customers.
Doing a better job.
Not damaging anyone assets.
Being on time.
Always keeping your promises.

I think there are many others, I sure its not about one but how many you can have that separates you from them.

Hey! It as many as you have that separates you from them.

Maybe A slogan,,,, try us and see the difference. What separates us form our competition is we really clean.

Ok never mind about the slogan. I ‘m still working on that. Never been much on slogans. I guess I tell people like it is weather they buy or not. Don’t bullshit anyone Tell it like it is.

Oh yes, "Being able to sell" Not everyone realizes that this business is mostly being able to talk to people and selling them on your services.

I know people that have tried to start a service business. They found out they can do the work, but can't talk to people in the way that's needed to sell there services.

Some people are sellers and some are workers.
If you are both, I think you can make some good money in this business and stay ahead of the compitetion, with all that was said.

My biggest competion is myself. I determine what I make. In other words don't worry about what they do just do what you think is the best way. Always look for oppurinities to better youself and your business and not before long you will be set yourself apart from your fellow business owners.

Hey Tim, was that the job in Northern Va.??? If so, glad you got it. We were wondering who would. There was one job where the property manager called at about 5pm for a job the same night as I was on my way out the door to meet Rod at another job site.

Beth :)

Beth, this job was local from one of my regular customers, turns out they called for a c/o inspection,on two vinyl duplexes, and wanted me to get out there before the inspector and wash the vinyl so the inspector wouldnt think to check the grade.

with as much mud was on the lower siding might have provoked the inspector to check.

i let the guy name his price,i kinda felt guilty charging him,but hey i was there at 9pm working in the rain,so i guess i deserved it.

i am ambitious but i dont think enough to drive to VA. to do an hour job,i do have some jobs that are about two hours from charlotte i do on a regular basis.
