HACKENSACK — An early-morning fire at a Prospect Avenue restaurant forced residents of an adjoining high-rise to evacuate for about two hours Thursday, fire officials said.

The 3:30 a.m. fire began in the kitchen of The Restaurant at 160 Prospect Ave. The residents of a high-rise at 170 Prospect Ave. evacuated as smoke filled the building, and firefighters checked on infirmed residents not able to leave, said Deputy Chief Matt Wagner.

Firefighters got the fire under control in about an hour, and residents were able to return home in about two hours. The restaurant was closed at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it affected grease ducts in the restaurant’s kitchen, which also had smoke and water damage, Wagner said.
