Ask the Guru

Phil Ackland

KEC Expert
Well here's your chance to finally ask the Guru that burning question you have always wanted answered about Commercial Kitchen Systems.
Beginning the first of the year (second week of Jan 08) we are starting a teleseminar series over the net.

More details to follow -- but first tell your friends (tell your enemies for that matter) -- What's your peeve? Your concern? What information of resource are you looking for? We'll do our best to answer your inquiry (or at least stirring the pot!!!)

Online Seminar

Ron

The seminar is scheduled for 1pm EST this Thursday the 10th of Jan.

The number is 1-605-475-4333 Access Code 828465

This is the first time we have done this. As such we are offering this one for free. We also have a couple "goodies" for those who listen in.

The subject is Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning -- What does 2008 Hold?

The program will be co-hosted with Rory Wilson this time. The duration will be about 45 minutes.

We are planning on holding seminars about every two weeks. WE have a number of interesting topics and people who we are looking forward to interviewing. I am sure more will come as time goes by.

People are welcome to send in questions (we already have a number and will see what time we have). I will check this bbs for questions before the program if people want to post them here.

see you there

This is a great opportunity for kitchen exhaust cleaners to get up to date information on our industry. A bi-weekly discussion on the industry is a brilliant idea.

The question I would like to see answered is: What is being done to ensure that certified kitchen exhaust cleaners are upholding the standards laid out by their certifying body (PAC, IKECA, PWNA)?

Was anyone else on the conference call?

I wasn't impressed with the service we chose. Which shows my lack of expereince in these things. I was able to capture it on tape though, so will provide it to this bbs for review. I think there is a lot of potential, but I will tighten up "script" (or at least have one) for next time.
I hope some of the key points in this one came across. Education is the key for improving the image of this field. On my toothfairy wish list -- That cleaners and their respective associations could figure out a way to work together to do this.

We will try to hold another one on the 22nd of Jan. Time to be announce.

See you all there

I think it was a great start! It will mature into a great arena for discussions.
I know many people were listening and did not introduce themselves, perhaps in the future it can be done on an internet site like skype so that there are no long distance calls, and everyone cann see who else is listening in.
I think Phil (and Rory) have a great idea and I hope it continues.
I know timing in this industry is an issue and with different time zones and jobs scheduled etc... it may be difficult to join in, but I recommend it to all that are able.

I'm sorry i missed it, wont miss the next one. I'm glad it went well, Would love to have the audio to put up.

I hope people can get together on the points of interest and put the small things aside.

They did a outstanding job. If I am not mistaken can't this be done on the net with sound-a few years back it was tried with mixed results-as we all know things have changed over the past few years.

One of my guys listened in, and sent me this short recap. Anyone else that listened should give some feedback.

"The first half talked about how to make sure cleaners are doing the job they are supposed to be doing, including those who are certified.
The replies were basically what I expected. The general consensus was that there is no way "to police" the industry from within.
The emphasis was then on how educating local AHJs and fire officials is the best way to keep restaurants in compliance.
The second half mentioned these new hi-tech exhaust systems that are supposed to revolutionize the industry."

Here is the audio file. As I said on the program, I'm not the sharpest computer geek on the planet. Someone will need to tell me if this works for you.

On a couple other subjects, We are making some changes here and Phil Ackland World HQ. Unfortunately Murphy showed up. Our websites will be back in business in a few hours.

On the Teleseminars -- I have to admit I do love a challenge.

This medium has great potential. I noted someone mentioned Skype and webcaming. I agree. On the webcam, I have one and even know how to use it, but we were concerned with the size of the file and what the majority can download. Any ideas?

As it stands, this audio is in "Sony format" and needs to be changed into MP3 or Wav. Anybody have ideas?

(time passes) -- Okay BBS Gods -- You better contact me and tell me how to post this audio file. I can't copy and paste and that's the limit of how I know how to do it.
