Adding on KEC??

My company is 90% flatwork and building cleaning. Over the past few weeks I have been asked if we can clean hoods. Today, I found out that one of my better accounts is going to shop for a single company that will do all flatwork, building, dumpster and hoods. My contract expires with them at the end of this year so I have some time to make arrangements. My question is: Have many of you transitioned into exhaust cleaning? Did you take a class? Is it a profitable add-on service?

I have most of the equipment necessary, already checked and insurance is no problem. I have hired "experienced pressure washers" from other companies and so far they have not worked out so I do not want to try and hire from another KEC company. At the same time, I need to know how to train someone to clean hoods!!

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I clean 99% hoods and will clean concrete while servicing the hoods. AS far as profitable, YES hoods are money makers if you know what your doing. They will be cleaned every 3 to 6 months more or less depending on the location. I would advice finding a reputable company outside of your coverage area and see if they will let you ride along a few night working with them. The classes will only show you so much and you will need to know a lot more. Like the jobs to walk way from do to the liability or more importantly your experience level. If you clean concrete proficiently you will need 2 additional items to start with: 1) a duct spinner, and 2) the right chemicals. The chemicals are dependent on the grease and personal preference. Some will drop the grease some will not -some grease you will work your butt off no matter the chemicals used. Hope this helps you.
