Advertising and Marketing on the Web: How to Get Better Results

I decided to post a reply I received from Dwayne--a computer technician related to a question I asked about marketing, advertising and computers on another forum. I had asked what I could do to improve my web to bring in more customers. This is what Dwayne wrote.

1. Social media, a website, and content. Cannot express content enough. Have a blog on your site that updates automatically from an RSS feed that is about pressure washing, pressure washing equipment, anything related to pressure washing. As long as its relevant content you will be fine. Try to get your business on review sites. Those reviews (called review aggregates) get eaten up by Google, they love to see em.

Instagram. Take pics of before your job and after. Hashtag the city you are in, and anything relevant.

Make sure your website has a sitemap that is submitted or crawled at least weekly if not daily.

Adwords if you have the budget. A well built adwords campaign will bring in traffic instantly and often times affordably.

Organic search results can take time but you get back what you put in. The rules on ranking organically are always changing so it can be hard work but worth it. Dont forget Google Local / Google Business listings.

My last advice is mobile. Dont fall for a responsive web design. Having a mobile optimized website will make it easier for visitors to your site to navigate and in the end be less frustrated. This is just the tip of the iceberg but I agree with Josh, start with a website, get your branding down and then get a marketing plan in place.

Of course if anybody ever needs help with any of this you know where to go now.

Just so you all know, I have hired Dwayne to create a logo and design a web site for me. He is now in the process of getting me top ranked on Google. And just to be clear, I am only mentioning him because I think he does good work at an affordable price. His contact info is listed below.

I find this to be particularly odd. I don't disagree with anything he has said, but his website is a responsive WordPress theme and looks pretty bad on an iPod 5. There is nothing particularly interesting about his site either, mostly typical layout stuff.

His advice seems logical, but his 'Portfolio' appears to be the efforts of a high school student (no offense to high school students).

Ty's services (www.websitedesignphoenix.com) are far superior in my opinion.

HAHA! Red, thanks for the love!

But on the topic of his Responsive statement I was just thinking the same thing. It is ironic because he has a responsive website himself. So I am confused about that statement too! I recently have been developing responsive websites and I think they are great. Honestly, if I would have known how to develop responsive from day 1 all my customers would have responsive websites.

But Responsive is fairly new and mobile versions were big for a long time. I think this guy just wants to up sell mobile versions instead of develop responsive in the first place. But he might be talking about how Responsive designs cost more and it may be more cost effective to build a mobile version? IDK. But mobile versions cost more too, so I don't get it. Responsive does take a bit longer to develop. But I would rather charge a bit more for responsive designing a site the first time then a lot more for a mobile version the second time around.

Other than the responsive thing, I agree with what he had to say. And I don't think his sites look bad at all. To each their own.

Good luck with the site Joe! I'm sure it will turn out great! BTW, GREAT COMPANY NAME!

Thanks for sharing that info Joe, always good to read and learn more about web marketing!

I wouldn't quite go as far as Red said, but when I looked at his site I tried to find what terms he was trying to optimize for. I searched multiple sets of these terms and couldn't find his site in the results for google, but maybe it was my user error.

The best looking website in the world is useless to a business unless people can find it, and in my opinion his site is lacking that.

That is one of the many reasons I stuck with Ty with http://www.websitedesignphoenix.com/ for my recent design.

His sites look good, function well, his reputation is unmatched, and his sites RANK. (My site by Ty is 3rd on Bing already and it was launched this week)

Either way, I am sure Dwayne will design you a great site and congratulations!

socalkol when you say, you are ranking 3rd on bing already. what is it specifically is it you are ranking for? is it running s search of your business name or other key words?

I'm asking cause i dont' understand what's considered as a starting point for what ranking is

He probably typed in, "pressure washing Augusta"

And I just did that, and he is fourth after bing local and all the ads. He is right under the yellow pages and one other pressure washing company. That is very good.

Exactly right, that was for "Pressure Washing Augusta" like random people would search for. It was not for my business name and location as those are artificial rankings that would get minimal searches.

Hey Guys just joined here and thought I would address the posts here. I had my mobile site disabled for a bit while I fixed. Of course by Murphys Law is when you guys visit my site. So yeah my site doesnt look great as a responsive site but like my post said I am not an advocate of responsive. My feelings are while its current and modern, mobile optimized will put you ahead of the game.

You should see the designs that didnt make the portfolio....those are even worse. Every client I approach the same, I give my design input and opinions and go from there. Most websites I do I put in the hands of the owner and if they want purple flying monkies on their website all I can do is say No, give a reason and make sure they are satisfied. Wordpress is now officially used more than anything else for websites. Heck even Best Buy uses it.

The best looking website in the world is useless to a business unless people can find it, and in my opinion his site is lacking that.

I couldnt agree more. While our site is award winning and award nominated with CSSDesigns Awards ranking on Google and Bing is for some companies and industries hard to do.

But anyways I just wanted to really say I have helped out a couple of power washing companies so far and see that there is from a business standpoint potential but also an awesome community where people help each other out. I dont know jack about power washing or power washing equipment but I know web design and marketing and I am just here to help out with free advice or if anything needs anything service wise to let us know.
