There are big trucks that have the 40k psi machines on them with needle-jet nozzles on their machines that look like vacuum surface cleaners called the Stripe Hog and a couple of other brands that can remove airport runway rubber easily, recover the water and rubber, filter the water and keep on re-using the water over and over.
There are many youtube videos of this.
They can even clean asphalt parking lots, roads and highways without destroying the asphalt which is really interesting as it is easy to damage asphalt with regular pressure washers so I think the key is in the way they make their surface cleaners and the needle-jet nozzles.
From what I have been told, those trucks are starting out at about $400k and they can come to most locations for a mobilization fee of $1500 and charge about $0.20 per sq.ft. of surface cleaned whether it is paint or rubber. Prices vary from state to state. They have done some smaller airports here in South Texas but I was working so I could not go and videotape them working.
I think those trucks are a great idea as airports will always need the rubber removed and properly disposed of along with paint from roads and highways when they modify things, add roads and temporary markings.
Hope this helps.
