Avoiding plant damage

I have never cleaned a roof . Yet. My question is, what happens to concrete, wood decks, grass or shrubs when cleaning homes without gutters? Will the solution not discolor or damage?

Yea do the search. But cover wood, sometimes watering wont do the trick unless it is a constant spray, and roof edges can drip for 10+ minutes. Its easier to have them covered.

Yes, it is best to cover wood, or you can be restaining a deck :(
We were cleaning a roof in tampa once, and just watered the deck real good.
Our ground man THOUGHT the deck was OK, and followed our roof cleaner to protect the plants.
The roof cleaning chemical kept dripping.
Result ?
A spotted deck with stain removed :(
You live, you learn ;)

Thanks to all for responses. Very helpful. Chris this BAMA boy seeks TRAINING on roof cleaning. As soon as I get the logo finished and trailer set-up I would like to hit the ground running like my gonads were on fire. Starting new and not being in phone book may be a problem but not one I will not overcome. If you are interested or recommend some one up this way let me know. I have talked with Russ and hope we can get together. I plan on being @ Round Table in Feb.

I would suggest Russ, since he is In Alabama, or Dave from Roof Clean USA, or Tim Aselton in Tallahassee.
You got three of the best roof cleaners in the USA up your way, just send me some Boilt Peanuts :)

One of the most important things is making sure you have a ground person watering everything constantly. When it gets hotter out in a few more months, that water on the plants will dry fast and you need to protect them.

There are some one-man-shows out there and that is how they want to run their business but when it comes to roof cleaning, I always have a helper watering everything, no reason to ever take chances with that, I am just too paraniod about that stuff.

There is so much for all of us to learn and always try to keep an open mind about learning here, that will help you go far.

There is a wealth of knowledge here, read the older posts and use that search button, it will help you a lot and the best part........................
You don't have to wait for people to respond. There are people here all the time but people work different hours so you do not know when a friend of yours will be back here. Good Luck.

RInse, Rinse, Rinse. You have to keep everything in the area wet. Some guys dont rinse the roof after applying chems. I always rinse before I leave. Rinsing the roof just helps dilute the chems more. Definitely tarp decks, plants and make sure your ground guy is on top of things.

You MUST rinse a roof when wood decking is present.
IF you leave the chemical up there, and it rains the next day, you may get a crash course in Deck refininshing
Remember, when you rinse, allow at least 1/2 hour of dwell time to be SURE and kill all the Algae.
Then rinse away.
When I am working, and planning on rinsing, I always invite the neighbors to come see the final product :D
Some go drink a beer, have a cigarette, or call their wives/girlfriends, etc, etc to kill 1/2 an hour.

great advice, gotta watch that drip! You will have a deck that looks like that new hairstyle all the girls are getting!

Also .. wood shadow box fences. Talk about spots!
I ended up just spraying one once. Looked better in the end, but I wish it wasn't needed.
