Bentonite - Clay - Polymer

In the swabby video, an old one anyway, they use a powder that clears up the water. Flocculation I think.

Anyone know about this?

What does it remove?
Water quality?
Where to get, how much?

Is this what the swabby lawsuit was about?

There are numerous types Tom, they are/should be matched to your waste stream.

There are clays (powder and solids pebbles) and liquids. When I first started researching water treatment this seemed to be the best solution for wash water cleanup. (it is great but not the best in my opinion)

I spoke with Kathy at Parker West http://www.parkerwest.com/equipment.asp they hold the patent for using a powder flocc on a mobile wash/water treatment system this is what allegedly got Clean Up America in "hot water". Parker West have license agreements available, and their systems are manufactured through Jerry at www.pressurewasher.net .
Tracy at Sunbrite sells a certain type of flocc http://sunbrite.stores.yahoo.net/flpo1.html
There are a lot more on the web also.

The patent must be in the details. I'm all for reaping the just benefits of your labor but 'we have the patent on using flocculent' sounds ridiculous.

Here's a statement from an electrocoagumalation mfr

The heavy metals were converted into oxides and the sludge passed the states TTLC and STLC as required by CAC title 22. As a result the State Health Board approved the EC processed sludge as a non hazardous waste.

I wonder, is there anything similar with the contaminants 'bound' in the flocculus (made that up) - could they be made non-hazardous. That would be awesome if you could safely throw the sludge in the dumpster.

I was thinking run a filter during the job or during the night and then flocculate at the end.

Thanks Nigel for the info, looks like I'm in for some research.

Sad but true Tom, you would need a lawyer go over your system with you if you wanted to use Floccs similar to Parker West. They have been issued the US patent and if they have "just cause" they could go after whom ever they think is infringing upon there patent.

I have heard that the Flocc's method do not always pass the required testing. (But in most places they dont even check). There are so many variables in the wash stream that sometimes the sludge does not pass.

You hit the nail on the head with EC technology, it is fast becoming the wave of the future. The military is in the forefront. When last I checked it cost, ..hold on to your hat...

$30,000 for a system to process 15-17 gpm

These are the systems that the military uses Hydro Engineering makes them. They work great and can process up to 50 gpm on some of the systems.

They work a little different than most because they use a multi pass system to process the water. Depending on what you get you can be well below 30k.

Most do have those Hydro Engineering systems Paul and they work great, I have also spoken with reps, but the newer EC technology has the highest sales with the military/government...not manufacturing or pressure wash industry, according to 3 different manufacturers I have spoken with in the last 6 months.

Mobile

Parker West hold a patent on using a flocculant on MOBIL washing rigs. If you are stationary, it does not apply. So basically if your set-up is on any kind of wheels, they can enforce. If not, you have nothing to worry about.
