Best and Worst of 2010

Kory how must effort did you put into boma?

The local Tampa boma chapter stinks I have been to six events and the contractors where 10 or 20 to 1. The pm's do not show to any of the meetings so I end up talking to the same contractors I see at the cai shows. I hear the Sarasota boma group is great, I just don't feel like hitting that market as it is a 2-3 hour drive from me.

I will say this.....one of the best things we did this year was push the fact that we reclaimed. And in turn were able to close lots of deals due to the fact that we had the vac system, so restaurant sales doubled cause we could do carpets and outside and we throw in the kitchen cleaning for free if they stay for 6 months, avg exterior=$200 avg carpet=$200 take that all day long. Having a vac/recovery system increases business hands down to any "marketing" with media.

Adding a GOOD RELIABLE VAC system will open lots of doors!!

Our biggest sale of the year was done when I gave a speech at a conference for building owners and reps. Hand shaking was all it took.

Candy dishes total sales =80k and it was 75% carpets, and alot of those are now monthlies. Candy dishes w/ candy $2.35 per total investment $500.00

Did rock in bag to raise some cash in December 10k bags = 30k in sales, but the cost of the actual effort to make and distribute bags was low, like less then $250.00
As a side note for the rock in bag deal we did have a very scary incident where a guy followed my driver back to my house and made a big ruckus, that goodness Florida has stand your ground laws, and needless to say he will be going to trial in May.

Thats too bad to hear, I always push BOMA, even though I do not belong, Sarasota is my backyard and I never heard it mentioned. And not for nothing but PM's like to be bought, schmoozed, wined and dinned.....cruises....vacations....limos....and the like.:jester:

And another thing that worked was this website, this board received lots of calls from here asking about specialty services, so kudos to you Ron the board is a powerhouse. Landed lots of in and out of state work from people who passed on the word about what they read from me here. Read about inside work, tile cleaning and large scale building cleaning.......so even though we maintain ZERO web presence for advertising, this board more then picked up that slack....

Thank you Ron.....

He's going to court because your guy threw some crap on his property.

Wow, he should've called the cops and had you fined for littering or better yet, throw it back at your driver.

I say this because you seem proud that he's going to trial.

One more thing.....YOUTUBE was a big seller this year, lots of calls and lots of sales.....they see our videos, ((even the one where the guy has on sandals)) and contact is made, sales from just those vids I share loosely. SO GO YOUTUBE!!!

Correct he should have called the cops, that would be the correct way to handle it, but he decided to attack my driver, damage his car come into my garage and try to get at me. SO seems to me that yes I am proud he will go to trial, he's looking at 6 felonies so go screw to him.

And once he is done with criminal trial I will hammer him in civil court. And so will the driver seperately.

So do you think it is ok to attack people? Good luck with that....:boring: I live by the sword and die by the sword, so I get it....I am no angel.....I take my lumps when needed.

And they cant fine you here, it is considered advertising and as long as it is propery marked and not thrown in a yeard that request "no papers" it is all ok.

Rock bags sound like a cheap way to get out in front of people but they cost more than mailing.

How so? I can do a direct mail campaign for 21.5 cents per piece but for the rock bag thing it's gotta be the price of a post card + one rock + one baggie + gas + labor, but it seems like it would be way cheaper than 21.5 cents per piece?

You forgot time and time is $$$$$

However instead of beating this guy into the cement you chose to sue. Real swordsmanship at its finest :rotflmao1:

What would you have expected me to do? Really beat someone, have my employee beat or fight this moron? Well that is just myth about me, those who know me , know that I would rather verbally beat you, then wash that verbal beating down with a high dose of humiliation in front of your family and peers and for desert gaining the fruits you have worked your whole life for, taking what is yours via the courts and rubbing that in your face. But I am not the bad guy here, at least I will always send a Christmas card with me utilizing something I gained from you.

Fists and swords just make everything I just mentioned happen in reverse. Let the brain do the work....SO soo much more satisfying:winknudge:

and time is $$$$$

You can say that again.

The rock bags cost us over $1 apiece to put together and put out. They can be done more efficiently, but how much Im not sure. Ive heard the person who I picked up the idea from they cost them 85 cents each and theres no doubt they had success with them. Maybe he will chime in here.

I know they are also not meant to canvass with. Youre supposed to just throw them out where you happen to be. And you can pick which houses on a street you are targeting.

Worst with out a doubt Door hangers with the wrong phone number on it. Yes true....Had no clue till a customer called me and told me he had to find the right number on the website. 2000 doorhangers I placed ouch.....FYI Don't proof read anything at 2am........

1st Being new with no brand
2nd rsvp
3rd coupon mag
4th truck wrap****
5th Post cards w/o a good call to action

best
Cold Calling
Internet
Post cards with a good call to action
door hangers with the right number.....lol

About the truck wrap.....I find over and over that my customers didn't know there are professional pressure washing companies out there that wash house's. I bet I only got about 5-7 jobs from people calling from my truck. What I did get from it, was once I showed up for a estimate I landed the job in 95% or more cases.

Advertising only works if you do something with the calls......My biggest fault is I don't return calls in a timely manner when I get behind or answer the phone or Voice mail at all.....That will change this year. It cost me thousands last year because I don't like talking to customers on the phone or I thought they would call back.

$1 a peice?

should be more like 4-7 cents each to put together then add in labor 40 per thousnd for delivery, but i use a 100% commision basis.
