I've been researching the best footwear for use on a roof and have come up with two possibilities.
The first is made specifically for use on such surfaces and is called Cougar Paws. Apparently these boots have a replaceable sole where the bottom/business end utilizes industrial Velcro (hook side) to insure grip. This is not too far from the use of felt soles used for fishing waders as it has excellent grip on slippery surfaces.

The next option uses a material I learned about on the Modern Marvels show...The stickiest stuff on earth. The show had a segment on Stealth Rubber as used by rock climbers. The stuff is simply amazing.
After looking into the Stealth Rubber product I learned that a few companies sell boots using this product...most interesting is LL Bean with a lightweight boot used for walking on slippery rocks and surfaces.
