booster pump

I have a direct drive pump on my pressure washer. I have been told if I go to a remote location and use water from a tank on my truck that I need some type of booster pump between the tank and the pressure washer(if so are there 12v pumps that could be plugged into a cigarette lighter?).I have been told that a belt driven pressure washer does'nt need a booster pump because they operate at a lot lower RPM and have a lot better suction.
Thanks for your time. E54259

You should be able to go to Radio Shack abd buy a cig. adapter and wire it to a 12v pump. Make sure you put a slow blow fuse in the line. Flojet makes a 4.9 gpm at 45 psi pump that should work for you. If you have a generator Home Depot sells a transfer pump for about $60.00, this is what I use.

Sorry but someone lied to you. As long as your hose is a braided suction hose that will not collapse and atleast 3/4 inch inside diameter it will suck fine.
I demonstrated this to a customer with a hose from 20 feet away into a 30 gallon pail. The machine pulled the water in just fine. If you give me the pump model# and brand I will send you the spec sheet that the manufacture puts out.

The pump mat be able to suck fine but the problem comes with the following. If you dicconnect the supply line a lot as in running from a tank to connecting to a faucet the time it takes with the pump running before the prime will do damage. After going through a couple of sets of check valves by not using a booster pump I opted to go with the pump. This was a Cat pump (5DX). Amazing I haven't had any trouble from it since, that was about 5 years ago. Before they would last only a few months. Of coarse this is just my experence with this subject and not any reflection on anyone else's advise.

With a big tank the water runs out of the bottom. Just put a ball valve between the tank and the pressure washer. As long as the waterlevel of tank sits higher than the inlet of the pump it will gravity feed and there is no danger of cavitation. Just shut off the ball valve before you disconnect and turn it on when you reconnect.
