Briggs Vanguard Engines

I am beginning to HATE Vanguards. I have never had good luck with them. In the past twelve months, out of the 24 machines that I have owned I have had 8 blow up on me. This has been one of the most frustrating things that I have had to deal with in the past year. First pumps that are losing their oil seals and water seals, repeatedly. A distributor that has been claiming that it is all my fault that things aren't perfect, and now engines blowing right and left. We have lost three that have had to go in for rebuild in the past two weeks. This is beginning to get too crazy.
I have about returned to the point that I was a while ago. I am to the point that I will not buy a Briggs engine, or an AR pump. I guess you could take this as a word of warning.

Apparently your not the Only who feels Briggs Motors Stink / Suck/ Terrible/ Poor/ horrible/ Unreliable/

Small Engines should not Blow up after 1000 hours some I have had 850......I stopped changing Oil twice a week because I saw no benefit.

We keep a Few Spares and change them when needed......

What pumps do you recommend, we are looking at the different ones out on the market that last and have reasonable repair parts to replace our hotsy pumps with.

I have replaced some of my pumps with Legacy's to try them out. I currently have 4 in service, and the guys love them. I also have had really good luck with General TS2021's. I haven't tried Udor's.

I have had good experience with them. Quieter, a lot less drama, and seems to maintain their power. Now, if I could just get Paul to get over his fear of a test, and get certified so that I could get them cheaper, I would be a happy camper.

Had Mark at Easy Clean switch out to a new 27 hp Kohler on our HydroTek. He said it was a good engine....your comment quantifies his remark.

I still have 2 of the Briggs in service but as they blow I'm switching to Honda's. We have had great results with the Honda's. Always have used General pumps but looking into the Legacy's also.

Scott, how do they handle the ethanol gas?

If you look at their website, they can do ethanol.

we have a couple of Hydroteks with 27hp Kohlers, they run 50 hours a week and zero issues in 2 years, the AR pumps seem to do well with them also

William Page had nothing but problems out of his Kohlers due to the Ethanol in the gas. Even after changing to different spark plugs they still wouldn't hold up...weird

That stinks
