Burner fuel pressure

I'm having a weird problem with my burner. A couple times yesterday while we were working along fine it started rumbling louder and I looked over and it was billowing smoke. So I turned it off and the fired it back up and the problem went away. I check my burner fuel pressure gauge and the needle was buried at 200psi. It happened two or three times. At the end of the job I noticed we had some diesel on the flatbed and found it was leaking (again) at the bypass line. I assume something is wrong causing too much pressure and springing leaks at the bypass and maybe the smoke problem but I don't know where to start, any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem with the loud rumbling and blowing smoke. Not sure about the fuel pressure part but my rumbling and smoke was caused by bad fuel. There was so much water in it that it wouldn't burn clean at all. Added some diesel 911, drove around the block to mix it up and has been fine since then. I also NEVER get any fuel from that station. Maybe try off road fuel or kerosene to see if the problem persists.

Since you have a fuel pressure gauge, see if you can adjust the pressure down. If it won't adjust, the regulator piston is most likely stuck due to contaminants.

If it needs to be freed up and cleaned, let me know. I can get you through it.
