Are you aware, or have you considered just how much your business would change if AB660 is successful in passing the California legislature in its present form? No matter how small or large your company is, YOU WILL BE AFFECTED.

AB660 (a Union backed bill) requires ALL companies working on pre-engineered
systems, engineered systems, and/or sprinkler systems to employ and use technicians who are enrolled in or have completed a sprinkler fitter certification program that includes 8000 hours (4 years) of training. Make no mistake about it; this requirement is not only for those that work on fire sprinklers, it includes companies and technicians that work on restaurant systems as well. Take the time to research and READ the Bill for yourself. You will discover that any “Grandfather Clauses” or “Owner Exemptions” are MINIMAL. YOU WILL PERSONALLY BE AFFECTED by passage of this Bill, no matter how small or large your company is.

On a serious note, is there anything we can do to help Grant?

This is a State of California issue. Fortunately many of the Fire Departments we work with are strongly opposed.
The whole bill actually looks like a money generator for the state and there normally would be provisions for the State to reimburse the local FD's for administering/policing the new policy, However there is language that says that the State will NOT be sending any money to the locals. (Probably why they are opposed).
As for any help, there are already formed groups that are very vocal that are challenging the Bill.
Time will tell.
