I am thinking about getting a 1993 3/4 ton with a 6x8 flat bed. I would be mounting a landa pghw, a 225 gal tank and hose reels. Has anyone had any experience with working off a truck instead of a trailer? What are your likes and dislikes?

Here is a 96 3/4 ton Ford with an 8x12ft flatbed.

We have a landa PGHW, electric hose reel, manual hose reel, two tool boxes and a 325 gallon tank that we drive around with full a lot. The lift also weighs about 5k lbs.

We had a to add leaf spring helpers and get higher rated tires but it drives great. I will probably try to keep on getting the older models because they are easy to maneuver and have a tight turning radius where the 99+ have the turning radius of a 747.

We do flatwork off this truck too and it's a lot more convenient than the trailer. So much so, that Chris is going to buy a flatbed and another Landa this fall and use his trailer as a backup.

As far as I can tell, that's the only drawback, if your truck breaks down you are stuck unless you have a backup.

Im looking to move to a flatbed as well. But am still saving money and am stuck between another skid or the truck. it would be for backup for sure. just incase the truck breaks down or for big jobs & my vac sys.

I used a flatbed for about 2 years. What I did like about it was the fuel milage, fairly easy to maneuver (a little wide sometimes) and it looked great.

I needed a little more room and protection from the elements so switched to an enclosed.

I am looking to get a flatbed by the end of the year and use that mostly for residential so I don't have to pull the trailer except on big jobs.

One good thing about trucks is that just about anyone can drive them where a lot of people don't have the experience pulling/backing up trailers.

There are good/bad things about trucks and trailers, just personal preference.

I bought a flatbed and had it for 3 months before the transmission went out and I have to say its soooooooooooo much better than a trailer.. I hate pullin this thing around.. when your ready to go to work.. hop in and go.. its all there.. very nice.. I miss it.

I put my trailer in storage a month ago. I do have to admit, I don't miss it very much. I'll keep it around though, it's better than selling it and not getting c=ap for it. It's a 5' X 18' utility trailer with a GVWR rating of 14,000 lbs.

Our demo crews all have flatbeds with boxes and racks and they love them, mostly because the tools can be gotten to easier than a trailer could. However it is not uncommon to be missing smaller items from the truck when we travel out of town. Our enviromental crews all have vans generally for storage of expensive materials and to haul our temps around in, and they all have their own trailers which usually works out very well for them except for the manuverablility standpoint but that is only a small drawback. If it were up to me I would have a 1 ton powerboard truck (cherry picker/crane boom) and nice enclosed trailer for my PW and equipment. But thats only for piece of mind, cause I really don't like for things to walk off.
