Consumer Affairs Not Doing The Right Thing

I just got off the phone with consumer affairs in my area to complain about the unlicenced, uninsured powerwashers in my area. When I had asked her why I needed a licence and insurance when they don't enforce it, she told me I didn't......... you no longer need a licence to powerwash in suffolk county new york I was told, But if I did painting or staining a licence would be required. Correct me if I am wrong but I think a powerwasher can do more damage than a paintbrush.

John,
I just returned your call tonight concerning this topic. Its completely insane that we no longer need a License ro Powerwash in Suffolk County if that Lady from Consumers affairs is right.

I will find out soon enough about this because my Contractors License expires on May 7th and I plan on renewing of course. I heard it now cost $400 to renew my License for 2 more years.

I will ask about this when I go down for renewal. I will also ask about Insurance. They are nuts if they say that we don't need either.

Supposedly some states don't require a License to Powerwash but its news to me if they no longer require it here. It makes no sense.

I'll let you know what they say when I go down next Month.

Don't forget you stain decks aka painting first fine = $300 or so it was when I lived on Long Island. I think it really helps in advertising if you can put licensed/insured in your add. The funny(funny in an idiotic sense) thing with consumer affairs is if you are licensed you are subject to any complaints a consumer may have.If you're not licensed and not doing a trade that requires it they tell the consumer they are powerless. My buddy got a $300 fine from them for advertising(not doing the work) to mow lawns on the side in the neighborhood on weekends. It's a screwy system and while the person you deal with on the phone may say one thing code enforcement may say another.
Just be glad you don't live in Florida if you want to paint the test is 2 days, 3 hrs each day, open book(the stack of books weigh about 60 lbs). All the books cost around 300-400 bucks + you gotta pay for the test.Just trying to make you guys feel better about renewing that license:D

so how's the weather up there it's supposed to be 78 today .... ahhhhhh Florida
chins up Spring's comming guys
GOOD LUCK
JOHN

I was told that you do need a licence for painting and staining and that is what is pissing me off so much, more damage can be done with a pressure washer than a can of paint. I never had a problem with having a licence or insurance I feel it is part of being in business and I will always have it.
