Cost Of Web Site???

How much does it cost to get your own website? Once I figure this out I would love to have a Website where customers can log on to. Would include my Website on my business cards so customers would be sure to remember me on their computers Address List. Any favorite site to list on? Anna

This is all new to me Anna,I think most severs gave you room to upload a web page or you can even find free spots on the web for them, don't think it'll cost nothing. Most charge tho to help build one,I think.

All it is,is a html document,I've been useing notepad to build mine, but don't mess with it much b/c I have no use for a web page as of now unless I just horse around on it.

There are several web pages what teach you html for free, they show you everything you need to build a web page.

Its best to start learning the fonts and colors as to how they work and work your way up to the images and gifs. There is alot to learn before you'll know how to build a web page but they are simple after you learn alittle about the html tags and how to use them.

You can find free gifs on the net, just be careful some have copyrights and you cann't use those.Sometimes I sneak in and barrow one tho.

I'm trying to learn how to put wave(song)in the post,I'm haveing heck learning dat one b/c I have to upload it to my sever,,still looking for a free one hahaha.I can get the radio bar to show up but no song yet.

If you'll type in html and do a search on the net you'll find alot of different places to go to learn. Also type in free gifs and do a search, there is page after page after page on free gifs.

Hi Anna,
It's 35.00 per year to register your URL with Internic. The host you use can be anywhere from free to 20 or 30 dollars a month.
I built our site, and used a free host. I had to deal with pop-up ads in order for it to be free, but that was fine for a year. The next year it was just 8.95 per month to get rid of the pop-ups and I have more hard drive space than I'll ever use.

I have a web site that I maintain for my Motorcycle club you should check it out the address is www.tnw2.org. I ride a Goldwing and belong to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.

ParadiseProWash - Nice looking website. Who did the Oct. pic of the month? That is a great pic.

I got it in an Email and I also saw it on another BB. I really liked it also so I made it our Pic of the Month. Thanks for the compliment I built that site a year ago with the Hot Metal web site building software I really like it. :)

The simplest thing would be to use a free site. Try www.contractor.com. They will give you a free site with no pop-up ads. It's very simple to do. Once you register you will be walked through a web page builder program where all you do is select what type of site you want from a list of templates and what background colors you want displayed and you can also add pictures they have from a library. You can then choose to add what ever text you want displayed on your site such as services offered, contact information, etc.

The only downside is your web address would be something like "www.contractor.com/rollingthunder".

If you want your address to be "www.rollingthunder.com" you will have to buy and register that name through Internic as Beth said. Registration costs have come down a lot over the last couple years. Some offer registration for as low as $6.95 a year.

Once you get the name then you have to find a server to host the site. The best for small sites is what's called a "virtual domain". You are not actually renting a server, but just space on a server. Check out www.certihost.com. They have a starter package for $2.95 a month with no advertising on your site, 100 mg. space and up to 100 email addresses.

The downside to this option is you must create your own page or site. You can use notepad as Bigboy suggested, but you must know HTML code to do it. Best bet is to buy an HTML editor like Microsoft FrontPage ($100) that lets you build a site simply by inserting images, text or whatever you want on the site. It does the HTML for you. You can also find free editor programs but they are limited in their capabilities. Of course if you want to go all out you could spend about $2000 and buy Macromedia Director and do some really cool stuff.

I would tell you to check out my site, but unfortunately my server was bought out and I was basically screwed in the "takeover" so mine is down for the time being. I figured while it's down I'm going to give it a facelift. Should have it up by next week.

I have one question on this web page deal, How much space does this require... My host for my computer gives me 10mb of space for this....

I built my website using software (http://www.cuteftp.com/products/cutesitebuilder/index.asp) I downloaded online, free for 30 days - then $69 to keep. I pay about $12/ month to host and my site is slightly more than 5 mb. I also bought my url from www.GoDaddy.com for $8.95/yr.

After re-reading the original question, I should point out that the dollar cost of building my website does not include the time to learn the software, design the site and maintain the site.

Even if you can get past the technical stuff, if you aren't at least somewhat creative, your website won't be worth looking at! (eg: Word processors have not made better writers, just better spellers.) So...having someone do the creative stuff may not be a bad idea.

Hello Anna,

We started our site in 1996. Had to register the domain name and it is hosted by a local company here in our hometown.

Cost $35 to Internic, $35/month to local ISP.

If you haven't been to my site recently I invite you to check it out. My resident expert (Wife) said she changed some things for the Christmas Season. http://www.tps-inc.com

Peg knows the html code so if you have more questions that you would like answered send her an email.

Anna, I signed up through Go Daddy, costs about $30 a month ... They have a design center, but I struggled to make mine look the way I wanted it to. I just put up flyers at a few local colleges and quickly found an IT student to design my site. We agreed on $200 which I thought was a great deal and she thought she just won the lottery! She said once I give her all the content and pics, she'll have it done in a week.

You can also use odesk.com to find someone to build your website or make improvements to it. I just recently re-did my website and updated from a guy who only charged me $100 if I remember correctly.
