Customers beggin' for roof cleaning!!!

I'm looking at actually getting into cleaning roof shingles for the 1st time. Many of my residential customers have come close to the point of begging after seeing what I can do for the rest of their property. There a few things holding me back though. First, I've never done it. If I did I'd go for an "apple sauce" mix, & call & talk to Bob @ Pressuretek to make sure I had everything I need equipment wise & order what I needed, then try to find good deals on the ingredients. Second, there's a national franchise that's moved into the area (Roofkleen), & I've thought about giving this local franchisee a call & telling him, "look your the best in the area at roof cleaning in the area & I'm the best at power washing, let's work together". What do you guys think?

Just make the call, read on the boards how to do it, meet up with someone for some labor for learning and then just do it yourself.
 
I did a search on both google and yahoo for the nationwide franchise "RoofKlean" and could not find them.

Is that the correct spelling?

Maybe that nationwide franchise does not have a website yet?

How do you know that they are nationwide?

I think you're making too big a deal out of it. You apparently already have an idea about what's going on in the cleaning business in general, so why not just buy what you need, do a friends or your own roof, and then get to the other customers' house's. I don't know why you would want to work with the other company, especially if they're already as big as you say, let them advertise their business their own self,... if you've got a foot hold on the area you shouldn't need them, don't help the new guy coming in to the area. Just worry about your own business because I'm sure that's what they're gonna do.

Good Post, kind of what I wanted to say.

If this other company really is a Nationwide Franchise, Why on earth do you think that they would want to team up with you after paying those franchise fees, getting specialized training in doing the job, marketing, sales, etc...????

If anything, I would want to start doing as much work as possible before they get the bigger share of the market as they are there to stay and will not worry about other businesses like you.

Kind of like McDonalds coming into town and a little mom and pop trying to talk to them, McDonalds does not need any help and the mom and pop are just buying time until they go out of business if McDonalds gets too much of the market share.

Kind of like that old western movie saying
"There is not room in this town for the two of us."

I would get started asap and get the marketing going asap.
 
Just make darn sure you are doing it right!! If you kill their lawn and shrubs with the wrong chemicals, you will lose all of their business...You can learn enough to do the job right just buy doing a search on this forum under roof cleaning..
 
I suppse it's just fear of the unknown. My thinking is that by working with a franchisee is that more business will come my way via their efoorts. I turn him on to a few leads to do what he does, and vise-versa. I don't advertise roof cleaning, folks just ask about it, but he ads. for no-pressure house cleaning. As far as running the 'em out of town, there's nothing wrong with good ole healthy compition imo. I'm sure his overhead is out of this world with buy-in cost, tv ads & such, he's not even going to put a dent in my business.
 
Up to a point, competition can actually be GOOD.
But there can be problems when supply drastically exceeds demand .
Up in Tennessee, an unsaturated market, a competitor will only RAISE potential customers awareness of roof cleaning.

Yea Chris I agree, competition can be good for raising awareness, but that will happen without "teaming" up with them. I would be wary of helping anyone when they're in the same market area as me. If I get outdone I want it to be because they did their homework and legwork, not because I did it for them. But I know what you're saying all the same.

Jason, if you have customers practically begging you for roof cleaning, why not order the stuff and hook up with someone close to you and get to work?

Why try to give your customers to the competition? There is no guarantee of them doing the same, actually there might be something in their franchise papers that might even prohibit it.

Just like others have said and more will tell you the same, get your own stuff, read and learn how then start making more money, the more time you delay waiting for someone to tell you what you want to hear or what you don't want to hear you could be learning how to make more money and get further ahead in the game.
 
I agree with Chris, just spend a little money, and get a roof cleaning set up, and quit TALKING about it.
Winter will SOON be where you are, and it is COLD up in Tennessee.
 
Begging to have their roofs cleaned, In 15 years no one has begged me yet..If it's that busy up there I'm moving up there and becomming Jason's partner...

DJ that pumps gonna burn up in that box, why not mount it outside of the battery box? It'll get more air and have a smaller footprint.

Did you try getting rid of that lance and putting the tip right on the gun yet?

Yes i just use the gun and i have the pump in the orange box i open the lid when using it i just keep it in there to keep in out of the weather . . . . Mike has used the same set up and hasn't had any problems
