difference between hoses

this is probably a stupid question...

what is the difference between black hose and gray non-marking hose?

I am smart enough to know that non-marking is self-explanatory - if black hose marks, how and what does it mark? I have only used the blue and gray pressure hose so don't have a comparison with black or marking hose.

I've noticed a price difference between the two, just wondered if I should bother trying to save some money on hose or just go with my instinct and get non-marking.

As usual, I welcome everyone's opinion and input! :)

It will mark up the marcite in the pools and also if it rub's up against PVC furniture it will leave black marks.

thanks nick.

does it mark concrete? I am more concerned about it marking curb fronts and sidewalks.

What do you use? non-marking?

:)

I use non-marking, you might as well. I never paid more for it, they should be the same price.

It will mark concrete when it vibrates on it as it gets older. ( Non-Marking that is)

I've seen that a couple of Distributors had black hose on a special - wondered if it was on special for a reason (being crap! :D )... I'll probably stick with non-marking - need to get some shorter lengths (50', 100') as I currently run 200'... quickly learned to put quick connects at hose reel to avoid reeling it all in between tank fill-ups!!!

Thanks for the info nick.

David, have you found that it leaves obvious or stubborn marks? Is it something that you are concerned about when cleaning?

Thanks for the info David.

Where do you guys get your hose? local or distributor? I'm looking for 50' and 100' lengths.

Steven, The black hoses I have (old Goodyear) leaves a dirty little trail on the concrete wherever it lays. It rinses easy, it just gets annoying if you already rinsed before. I will try to wipe the hose with some tansmission fluid or other rubber conditioning solution to see if that helps. Has anybody else tried this?

I've found that black hose seems to only mark when it is dry or the surface your cleaning is dry. When the surface is wet, I don't get marks.

I always see non-marking priced higher than black. I don't know why you would want black hose over non-marking unless it was cheaper.

I use the red Goodyear hose for my suppy lines. No marking issues there. I thought we were talking about black high pressure hoses marking up concrete. My bad.:D

I know a secret to make any hose stop marking, anyone here going to tell Steven?

My red 3/4 Goodyear suppy hose I get at Home Depot in 75' lengths. I have about 300' and use it for low pressure roof and house washes. Regular garden hose can't handle the pressure. I inherited my black hp hose. I have tried grey non marking and like it OK. I just ordered 250' in 50' sections from envirospec. They have some good sale prices right now.

I must be using the secret and don't even know it. Very, very rarely do I get any marks and when I do they just rinse away.
