Dud Injectors

Am I mistaking in thinking that these Hi-Draw injectors use to offer a ceramic ball for acid use? Either way though,..would a ceramic ball have better longevity and stick less than a stainless?

When the ball sticks prematurely and you know the orifice is still good,..I get in the habit of using WD-40 with the skinny red "straw" and push it up inside to unstick the ball and lube it up a little at the same time. The WD-40 doesn't last probably after the first pull of the trigger,..but I gotta unstick it anyhow,..and the little red "straw" works good. Once it starts sticking,..and the injector isn't that old,...I will do this before every job,..only takes about 10 seconds. Gets really old,...setting up and finding out the ball is stuck,..having to shut down, and then unstick the ball.

I wonder if silicone would be better. Always heard use silicone and not wd40 around o rings.

That's a great idea Jeff. I'm gonna do that next time the ball gets stuck in my injector. I may lube up some of my old injectors that didn't last long and see if it brings them back to life. Who knows, maybe an overnight soaking will make some of the bad ones like new. Thanks for the tip!!!

I had the same problem with the General Hi Draw injectors, some were duds first time using them but when you order some and then months later go and try a new one, kind of too late to call the vendor to say you have a dud since they were bought months ago.

I had some where the ball would stick all the time when brand new, some would stick later on, I replaced the ball, spring and o-ring and still would not work when new, just not sure what else it could have been so I don't use that brand anymore, wasted too much time on them not working.

Chris, what are you using now?

Thanks for the info Ed! I guess I need to find one that actually worked well for a while to use for a reference model to compare each new one to. I'll be sure to inspect each General Hi-Draw injector as soon as I get a shipment of them so I can possibly detect any mislabeled ones.

Where did you find out about this defect? It would seem unlikely that the General company is unaware of the problem. I'm out of probably $60.00 to $80.00 due to this defect.

But thanks for this valuable info. That explains a lot.

Richard try doing this take the jumper line and connect it directly to your high pressure line bypass the reel. When sometimes when you have the swivel going bad it can have a tiny air leak an make some stuff go bonkers. Are you pulling the line out and rinsing using your soap tip.I have found sometimes mine will stick when doing this.I just take a pick an unstick it and rock on.

Get a super suds sucker and be done with injector problems.

I Was SOOOOOO disappointed with the draw from the General Hi draw 5-8 and 3-5 with my 8 GPM..... Hall turned me onto the SSS... I use it with the #3 oriface nozzle ( and have spare nozzles as well as rebuild kits) It pulls copious amounts of soap and i keep spares ( at $65 a rattle).... All 8GPM machines should come standard with a SSS and a 4 nozzle big guy........ just my $0.02!!

Is the SSS only available from espec?

I discovered it because I had to. When none of my employees can figure it out I explain that's why I'm the boss and make the big bucks. And yes, this makes me a dik.

Balls get stuck because of the 1/8" seat o-ring. Change the ring and the ball won't get stuck. I'm confident this has nothing to do with whether it's ceramic or not. When you switch to a higher pressure tip it it constantly trying to drive that ball passed the 1/8" o-ring. After a short time the ball wedges itself into the o-ring and get stuck.

Ed, are you saying to use a different size o-ring? If so, what size have you had good luck with?

Before you dud an injector maybe try putting it as close to the gun as you can and see if it works. I thought I was having bad luck with injectors, found out my hose reel swivel was so blocked it was causing the injector issues. Just figured I would throw this out there so people don't throw out perfectly good injectors.

Also make sure your gun is rated for 10+ gpm. Smaller gun (even one rated at 8 gpm) could restrict draw of the down streamer.

Thanks for explaining that Ed, I have tried that and even with a new o-ring installed, for some reason the ball gets stuck still. Maybe a different type of o-ring would help some?

There have only been a couple times where water was coming out the chemical hose on the downstream injector, it was because the ball, spring or o-ring was not working properly so water from inside the injector was getting past the ball and going out the hose into the bucket of house wash mix. One time the metal ball had a lot of rust on it so it was not sealing on the o-ring and the other time the o-ring had a small tear on it so the ball would not seal.
