Duns Number

So how many of you pay for your Dun and Bradstreet number? We have a Duns # but we don't pay so D&B is saying we have to pay our dues for companies and banks to pull our credit... Don't really know much about it except I don't want to pay.. But I would like the opinions from the board. So far we have stayed in business without loans or financing. But maybe our Duns # will open up doors of opportunities.
Let me know what you guys think about this and if you pay. Thanks in advance.

Nope, not worth $125 a month to me. Since I recently secured multiple loans without it, in order to be able to accomplish my new contract, I think it isn't necessary.

Scott, its not always about the financing. In the commercial world its needed, the private sector. (NOT your GOV paradise) lol

You can have a rating without it, stiff someone an find out.

Here's how TY, volunteer to file credits apps for customers. Dun Apps....They are Borrowing money , you will get a listing as a reporter.

As long as your company stays clean with no judgements or unpaid balances to others you will have no issue.

I almost want to ask you who wants your info? I won't

Duns numbers are free and some commercial business require you to have one. What D&B is trying to sell you is most likely monitoring musch like Equifax try to seem their credit monitoring to everyone. Ron is right as long as you are always up to date on everything you are fine. If you ever want to see the report that D&B has on you ask one the companies that requires you to have one and they might send you a copy of the report they requested.

i know when they called me up, the guy would not take no for an answer. I finally had to get rude with him, and eventually hang up on him, and he thought we were just disconnected and called back. I made it plain and clear again, and made it clear I was hanging up on him. He got the message the second or third time around.

I like making sure others are paying the bills

Ron that is a perspective I had not viewed it from. Just so the other know on this post, I am aware you get a DUNs number for free but other companies that look up your DUNs number can not see your rating or score without paying.

But I like the idea Ron has about checking out who I do work for, because once you pay you can view the companies you do work for and find out whether they pay on time or not. It might be worth the money just for that!

Still, I have not decided yet, I might hold off for now.

Whether or not my customers pay on time is not a concern that I could resolve with a DUN's number, but my customers are very different from just about everyone else. I can see how it would absolutely be beneficial to someone who has mostly commercial or industrial customers, and would probably even recommend it for them.

I get called now and again by Dumb & Bradsteal...woman will tell me my D&B report has a delinquency on it. I ask her which company shows me delinquent, as all my bills are paid on time. She'll reply, "I can't tell you that, you have to pay for the service to find out."

Kinda like Pellosi on the Obamacare bill..."You'll have to vote for it to see what's in it."

Nah, don't think so.
