We don't have any algae out here. Nothing but major HEAT!
I was doing some repairs on the roof yesterday and noticed that the difference in temperature between the roof of the main house and the roof of the shop was HUGE.
The main house has these concrete tiles (which are really easy to walk on by the way) and they are sort of a brownish red. Even though the temps were less than 100 degrees yesterday there was no way you could leave your hand on them for more than a few seconds. I have a huge attic throughout and in the summer you can't stay up there for more than 5 or 10 minutes because of the heat. We had to put in 12 inches more of insulation to keep the house cool.
The shop area has a flat roof and white elastomeric paint. You could leave your hand on it all day. I've only got 8 inches of insulation in there and it is much easier to cool.
Have you ever seen a roof like this coated with white or beige elastomeric? If so, how does it hold up and what does it look like after a few years?
I think we could reduce our cooling bills in the summer with this.
