I have a honda 4000 psi and 3.5 gpm pressure washer w/ a cat direct drive triplex pump, hooked up to a Ramteq hotbox and 200 ft of hose... Recently I acquired a contract were there isn't any available water, so I'm having to use my water tank!!!! However when I crank up I not getting any water and sunday lost a hour trying to get water to flow through the pump and wand, and I don't know why, any suggestions??

Secondly, on other occasions... I could be using the wand and if I let go the handle, it stops altogether....but I can feel the pressure in the hose and right at the handle.... why is this happening?

There are a couple of different problems here. How long is the hose that connects the tank and the pressure washer? Direct drive pumps have terrible suction abilities because they turn so fast. You are always better off with a shorter hose and especially in this situation. Also if the pump is higher than the tank outlet, you may have problems, due to the poor suction abilities of the pump.
The other problem, I am assuming that you are saying that the machine dies when you release the trigger after washing for a while. Most typically, that is because your unloader, or pressure regulator is getting ready or has gone out and needs to be replaced. It is not bypoassing the water at all, and is locking up the motor.

When I built my hot box project the motor and pump were higher than the tank .. I raised my water tank and the put the pump and motor lower and the it worked fine.. People say a pump will suck water but I have not found it to ...If the pump is higher up than the water tank outlet then this could be the problem.. Just an idea...

On the unloader take it apart and clean it out good .. Put Vasoline around the springs and seals , put it back together. Also invest in a pressure guage and set the unloader.. make sure you do not have over 400 psi of spike when you let off thge gun.. If you do turn your unloader down..

Thaanks alot.....but when you say things might be about to go out...i get alittle confused...simply because all this equipment has less than 4 hrs on it....
I will try all that you guys have mentioned.....

Quick question is HF acid the same as muratic acid?

Your thinking of Hydrochloric Acid. That is the same as Muriatic acid. With your initials "HF" your thinking of Hyrdrofloric Acid.

I tried reading up on it (HF) but all I could find was articles about how it will kill you. I couldn't locate the chemical composition of both Muriatic and Hydroflouric acids.

Looks like your Machine may have a float tank on it. If this is true you need to take the hose from the pump inlet off of the float tank and run it to the water tank.

You get it fixed ?
