f13 & Gutters Spring Hill, FL

Last year I had to replace all the gutters on a ladies house. They were fairly new, so I didn't even bother asking if I could paint. About $1000-the $350 or so I charged her if I remember correctly. Now I'm leery on gutters.

factory applied paint on gutters is prolly baked on at some point in the manufacturing process. i will not clean gutters if paint has been applied after it is installed. it will come right off. Michael Kreisle knows a way of cleaning gutters without brushing.. i would pay for that info.

it just takes a lot of experimentation. sometimes the weirdest things you wouldnt think of can do the trick.

i had the same thing happen to me with krud cutter. but the lady was honest and told me she used something on them last year that was to strong and it removed the paint. The black stains covered the missing paint and i couldnt see it untill i brushed them.

so i guess its fair to say no matter what you use the gutters will still have to be scrubbed.

Scrubbing should rarely - if ever - be needed. I use Simple Green, usually straight, and APPLY it with a brush. Dip the brush in SG, wipe it on a small (20' section) and LIGHTLY brush that section.

If the SG in the bucket starts to get cloudy, you are removing the finish, which means you're brushing too hard and/or your mix is too strong. Test in an (if you can find one) inconspicuous area.

Gutters

yeah stuff like this is exactly how we learn to make ourselves better. I know that is how I was when I first started.
The main problem with the gutter streaks that I have seen is that they make a electrostatic bond with the gutters, which actually puts the stain in the paint. And the only way I have seen to remove them is to use a detergent that will etch the top surface of the paint off to remove the streaks.
I have not personally used simple green and I am not sure what it is made of. But I am pretty sure that gutter zap does the same thing as f-13 does.

The paint will come off of certain spots, depending on the age and condition. If the streaks don't come off easily and you have to brush hard this happens, just keep a $1.00 spray can of enamel paint and touch them up. This will happen on gutters that haven't been painted before.

i never used gutter zap, i heard you just shoot it up there and rinse. but you gotta order it, i guess its easier to run down to lowes and get SG or krudcutter.

thanks for the info/replies.. heres some of the pictures one is before n after where i didn't remove to much paint.. the other is where most of the paint was removed and i had to touch it up. the guy was happy when i was finshed.

Great Picks

Every gutter is different. We use F13 but we always start week and add more to the mix until it is right for that set of gutters. It is better to start weak, than to strong because it will do damage if it is too strong.
