Fatboy or 5800?

I was getting ready to finish a job today and my 5800 just stopped while loading chemicals into the tank. Check the battery, checked the wires into the pump and after the switch....everything is hot. So I assume the pump just gave way. This will be my first real year to get a lot of work and I'm wondering should I stick with the 5800 or go with the fatboy? It would be nice to have a little more power, but I'm one that already has a problem putting a little too much chem on a times. Is it worth the extra $100, when it may last the same time as the 5800?

Also the pump is less than a yr old from when I bought it, not sure about from when it was manufactured. Would it still be under warranty?

Just checked I bought April 24, 08....manufactured 03/08.

Just called someone from pressure tek...didn't ask for a name! whoops! Anyways I'm sending my pump to them to see what they can do, it probably has 30hrs on it, at the very max. It shouldn't have given way, so see what they can do, I don't have high hopes for the pump though....so the question still remains. Another 5800, or fatboy?

Flushing these pumps with 5 gal of fresh water after every use will keep these pumps going for years.

I have put lots of chemical thru mine and she works like a champ?

If you can learn to control your runoff, Fatboy hands down. If not stick with the 5800 until you can. Yes, the fatboy IS that much more powerful. Awesome pump

I'd say to get the Fat Boy. I just got my 1st. 5800 and wish I just would have got the F.B.
Im pushing for more roof cleaning this year and trying the whole 12v pump thing to see how much I like it.
But if your happy with the 5800 and dont think you need the F.B., then dont get it.

I just ordered a fatboy I have a slate roof to do next week.My 5800 went out after 2 months and I have never sent it back I need to check into it.

I have a shurflo that has been running for years,I wish they made a big pump. The shurflo just won't get it up there fast enough and far enough out.
JC, How many GPM's and PSI is your sureflow? I've used mine on many Roof Cleanings that I couldn't get on the roof and never had a problem. Try using a 0030 or even a 0020 tip. I've gotten mine to reach 35-40 ft with no problems. We did this one from a ladder because it was too steep. 0030 tip on this one worked out great.

1.8 at 60 psi is what I have.I have the tips from Bob that he sent with the 5800 I haven't tried em on the shurflo.Probably need to just to see.

I ordered the fatboy today.Impulse buy maybe, but if there is anything I hate it's not having the right tool for a job.

What do you use on Slate roofs Larry?I have seen some posts that say don't use soaps because they might leave a gloss or film on the tiles.

A sureflow has bailed me out when my 5800 stopped working after 2 roofs and i flushed it out real good also.

USE SOAP! If you don't the runnoff and the amount of material you will go through will be insane plus you'll need for your mix to be extra strong. It will ( with the soap) Probably leanve a bit of a soap residue especially if it's real hot outside but the rain will rinse that residue along with any dead mold residue right off te Roof. Here is a Ceramic tile Roof we did a couple of weeks ago. These seem to always leave a bit of soap residue. I hate doing these kinds of Roofs. They are like walking on Glass and are very slippery when they get wet.

If you look at the top picture you can see where it left some residue. On the bottom picture I had rinsed it off from the ground for appearance sake in the front of the house but it shows what it will look like after the rain rinses it off.

Nice work Larry,

Whatever you do, don't add Dawn soap.

I have a very good friend that cleans roofs here in Brandon/Tampa.

I'm not kidding you when I say he is most likely busier than ANYONE that posts here. This guy cleans everything all day everyday.

He used Dawn for YEARS everyday.

It slowly hacked away at his lungs and he went to the Dr. last year.
To make a long story short, he DOESN't use Dawn anymore.

PLus you don't get the correct kind of bubbles with dawn IMO....you get slime.

Something to think about Larry, we don't want you to "gas" yourself in a pool cage so you can't clean roofs.

I've been using Dawn for years and still do. I haven't had any problems with it. Seems TSP has many more disadvantages and is much more harmful than Dawn soap. I tried the antibacterial Dawn ONCE and thought I was gonna die. Went right back to regular Dawn. The antibacterial Dawn causes a nasty reaction with the sh and puts off a gas that is intolerable and it will eat up your lungs. As far as slime....I've never noticed any slime and I also never knew there were different kinds of bubbles. What are the different kinds of bubbles? Not busting your chops, I've just never heard of such a thing. As far as I know, Bubbles are bubbles/ suds.

Ya bro....those bubbles are not the kind you want (in you pic)..

You want bubbles that look like the kind on top of a 10 dollar cup of coffee. They won't come out of your tank. I know I have a pic but not on this tower...I'm on my gaming puter and I put ZERO work stuff on this rig.

I mean it....don't use Dawn.
Hahaha! Your killing me! Where do you buy your coffee? :D

What do you use Tom? You keep saying DONT use dawn, but dont say WHAT to use....
