Feed reel under flatbed?

I actually thought about doing it on my 2007 F 350 when I had it. It's a great way if you have something else you want to put in their place on the bed. I would think mounting them underneath would be hard on your back unless you had electric hose reels. I might do it to my truck though if I add a second machine to it one day but mainly as a back up unit. I want to set it up to where I can shut one machine down if something breaks on it, hit a few valves, start the back up unit up and go right back to work.
 
I have seen a few rigs here on PWI with under-mount reels and it looks good to me.
 
Did it and wouldnt do it again...first I had manual reel ..that did suck on the back...second if the lock or brake isnt engaged and the hose starts to drag...riiiiiip right off the reel...turned a titan into a Potatoe chip..lol..plus I couldnt imagine what the car behind me thought when 5 feet of hose came flying at em. Great for utilizing space but def go electric and have redundancies on lock checking .
 
I remember seeing them boxed in with the side open before, looked relatively protected.
 
Been thinking of doing the same thing, but was trying to decide if it was a good move or not.

Hose Reel mounting.. under the truck bed.

Under-Bed-mounted reels work (and look) really cool,
But HOW you do it is just like the difference between a positive attitude, and a negative one..
.. the results are about YOUR management skills.

and for security.. use grade-8 bolts,
Anchor them well with beefy flat-washers,
Use only NyLok version nuts,
..including replacing what you see of the reel's original hardware,
then, anchor the end of the hose with a mounted quick coupler,
Triple-check the reel lock EVERYtime you use it,
and put the hose reels on your "hardware check" of your monthly maintenace list.
..You have one of those, Eh?

We have both a supply and pressure reel under the bed of "the Rig", our F350 flatbed. They are pretty beat up but, it is a huge space saver. We have ruined a few hose ends from dragging when we first installed, but early on developed a policy of leaving the hose connected to gun through stake body (impossible to disconnect).
 
I was thinking about mounting hose reels under the box truck but the hoses worry me as they can get loose and start dragging.

I have seen guys that put couplers onto the frame so that the hoses don't come loose which is a great idea.

Pin locks on the electric hose reel are also a great idea.
 
I am mounting a 28 inch wide electric pw hose reel on the top and the feed reel underneath. I am welding a fake spigot thread to the underside of the bed to screw the end to. The reel has a twist lock.

Will be putting a mud flap between the reel and the tires.

Btw, got a little carried away with the angle grinder and a cutting wheel today making the side panels.

Cut into the bone and joint. Have to see the orthopedic surgeon Monday. They spent an hour and a half digging out bone chips and metal shavings.
