Float valve shutoff

I am interested in seeing a picture of how someone has there float valve setup to shutoff at a certain level. I use a hudson float valve, and I plan on increasing the size of my tank. The only problem with that is that I don't always want the entire tank to fill up. I am looking for some way to adjust the depth of the float valve so that the water will only fill up to a certain level before the valve shuts it off. Someone had mentioned fastening the float valve to the end of a pipe, but then how would it be adjusted where it would stay put at a certain depth. Any ideas would be appreciated!

How about a trap adaptor like the p trap pipe under your sink slips into. Find a pipe diameter that is a snug fit. Put the trap adaptor through the top of your tank and slide the pipe up and down and lock it in place with the compression collar. Only problem I see is filling the tank all the way, you'll have 3' of pipe in the air.
