Found this article about Starting a Roof Cleaning biz on the internet

Could be worse Kory, thankfully he's not pressure washing the roofs and the prices aren't 99 dollars either. Seems like a good article for a new person starting up their research

Pete M and SunBrite are on there as well under Start up Guides. :scratchhead:

It works there are per-carbonate based cleaners that are a bit stronger than the oxiclean though. It is a feasible alternative to the sodium hypochloride but sometimes it takes more than one application to work.

Are there any negative aspects, besides the added cost, compared to SH? Will it damage plants?

The only precarbonate (sp) experience I have is on my own deck as a consumer with contractor grade chems. However, I can say with certainty that the only active chemical that the fiberglass/composite shingle manufacturers approve of is SH. Along with TSP :-(

BTW - my deck turned out great :)

Exactly, you really can't go wrong using the method recommended by the folks that make the shingles.

I kind of started the whole ARMA roof cleaning stuff years ago, when I was attempting to establish Non Pressure Roof Cleaning against more accepted at the time pressure washing of roofs. This ARMA chit needs to DIE, and die soon. Here is why! The so called ARMA Method (that don't even work) calls for diluted STORE Bleach, water, and TSP. Once you send a potential customer the ARMA Guidelines, you just fuked yourself, because the customer thinks like this. "The roof cleaner says he will use 50 gallons of solution on my roof that is ARMA approved, so if he dilutes the bleach that means he will use about 15 gallons of bleach at 1.00 a gallon"
Then, the customer will ask why you are charging him 500.00 for 15 dollars worth of bleach! Also, once you show a customer the ARMA method, often they will go buy their OWN Bleach and attempt to DIY.

Now, you CAN say that ARMA suggest sodium hypochlorite (another name for bleach) but it is my opinion you need to LOSE the word Bleach from your sales pitch everyone. It greatly devalues roof cleaning.

How Often have they Changed over the years

I see your point and agree....however I think that most people are not going to attempt to clean their own roof and if they do, they will mess it up and end up callingus to fix it.

I've never told a potential customer how many gallons of solution we would use and don't understand why you would.

Is the RCIA, UAMCC or PWNA or any other org working with ARMA to change this? I'm guessing that all three are working on this, so maybe we will see some changes soon.
