Fuel surcharge

I have told a few PM's that my proposal are good for 1-3 months on some of the jobs I have bid recently due to cost increases. Told them if they want it done they need to get it scheduled. Most I haven't said anything yet, but will if I have to.

I have a clause in a 2 year contract I signed, that the second year I am allowed to increase cost by 3-4% if fuel & chem cost go over a certain amount. Hell I hope thats enough the way the Damn Arab cartels are sticking it to us royally.

I see nothing wrong with going to a customer and doing a surcharge, its getting costly for sure at the pumps

Anyone else charge one yet? We have been charge for it since gas stayed over $2 a gallon. Current count is over 3000 jobs and only 2-3 questions about it.

I've added fuel surcharges already. One trip gutter cleaning jobs are $6.00, house washes are $10.00 and deck restoration is $15.00. I've run them this way due to the amount of trips out to the jobsite. I've only had 2 people question them and they were just curious, not irate.

I just figure it in to my price. I have found that the customer really doesn't want to hear me say anything about rising cost of fuel when they are having to pay it too.

Before anybody jump's on me I do residential only so it's just easier to just add it in and it's ever been a real deal breaker either. I feel for you Commercial guy's, that's a whole different ballgame.

It's the first of the year just bump your price based on inflation (currently 3.82%)

Add your fuel surcharge and get a number you can work with. Prices go up so should yours.

Why would you even put a fuel charge as an additional line item? Just put it in your proposal and let it ride. Most likely they will never question you. If you have to, just add say $30-$40 a day per crew. Thats what I might do. We have to account for the increase somehow. All of our contracts state the price is good for 30 days. We can change it after that.

The new 2011 price is what I am saying for the price they pay or you quote..
Calculate the increase based on inflation add what you think the fuel surcharge should be and that is your 2011 price increase. Likewise on new accounts just figure it in and go.

I've increased my hourly rate by $5.00 and my monthly customers a 5% surcharge and no complaints
