Fuses blow on motor starter

The starter fuse on my 20 hp Kohler blows when I turn the key to start. The motor will still start but the fuse burns out. Any ideas?

thanks, Kemp

I checked the obvious exposed wiring. Maybe the starter solenoid or the ignition switch is shorting out. Motor still starts but blows the fuse. Then I have to replace the fuse to start it again.

That sounds like it.....
just curious, how many seconds do you have to crank it before it fires up?

Not too many cranks. It usually starts quickly. Russ J. and I discussed it on the phone. I think the voltage regulator is shorted out to ground. I will order one and find out.
