Gearbox drive machine in unknown mechanical condition...advice?

I won this gem in an auction yesterday and am picking it up in the morning. http://auction.repocast.com/details.cfm?ID=1392274. Looks like it was used at a factory or something like that.

No specs and I didn't inspect it. I'm guessing it's 5.5gpm @3500psi based on the engine, it is a gearbox drive. I've already budgeted money for a 8gpm machine next year, but something just told me to scoop this up and see what happens. Why not? The price is right. If it's a pile I can get my money back out of it, all I'll have lost is a few hours of time.

My plans are.....change the engine oil, pump oil, fresh gas, plugs, compression test, check the wiring and go from there. Once it's running see what it's putting out for psi. If all is well I'll then remove it from the funky cart it's mounted to and put it on a skid.

The unknown is the gearbox oil, I'm reading that it's 90w but I'm not 100% sure on that. It would be swell if somebody could clarify that along with what else to look for.

Yes, 90w gear oil goes in the gearbox. Check the pressure, lose that little aluminum inlet strainer and use a good sized canister or Y strainer. There doesn't appear to be water in the oil, so you may have a gem. But you're right...with what you paid for it, you could piece it out and recoup your expense and then some.

Well, this is an odd beast.

It has a 18hp gx610 paired up with general t9281 pump. Why? Who knows. 4gpm and 4000psi.

Engine was just serviced, new oil filter, oil and plugs. I changed the gearbox oil and pump oil, neither of them were especially bad. Battery is toast, puts out 3.5v. My cables are a mile away, I'll get those and jump it. If it runs I'll buy a new battery for it.

Wasn't quite sure on the volume for the gearbox. I filled it to the top of the notch on the dipstick.

With the good comes the bad....

It started right up with no problem.... But with a 50' hose it was only putting out 2600 psi open and 3400 closed. The 4gpm was there though. Checked the compression and had 120 in one cylinder and about 68 in the other. This is after running for ten minutes.... Also the plug in the cylinder with the lower compression still looked brand new after running for ten minutes and wasn't even that hot. That cylinder doesn't seem to be getting any spark, I unplugged that side with it running and there was zero difference in how it ran or the output.

I'll dig into it more tomorrow night maybe.
