Getting around Ins. Problems

I just talked with my insurance agent and he said since
we paint and stain decks we should just tell the agents when
wanting quotes that we are painters, and need insurance for that.
He said we wouldnt be lying, and insurance would be cheaper and
easier to obtain....

Good Luck

Seems that if you clean things, insurance is higher.

Take my word for it. Never tell them you strip and wax floors. The rates are extraordinary if they will cover you at all.

the prob is

contract cleaners use chems.
chems are the part they are worried about.
I would guess there are not any of us that have a spill kit on our rigs.
One call to the EPA about a pressure washer involved in a accident/spill could cost some big bucks.

Its probably best to just tell them all of what you do rather than make a claim one day and have the underwriter find out that you are not really a painter. If all you do is decks this may work but if not trying to cut corners to save a little cash will come back to bite you. My insurance is under $1000.00 per year what do you pay? I think thats reasonable.

I've come to find out that most insurance agents know very little about insurance. The only thing they know is the couple of plans they offer, you choose it, then they get your info and submit it to he underwriter to find out if it will be accepted or not. Insurance agents in my opinion are sales people that only have minimum knowlege of what they sell.

You are right on target - I learn that years ago the hard way.

If you want the piper to pay you - you have to pay the piper.

Auto Ins. is the problem ?

Hey All,
Its not the PW insurance that is hard to get,
it is trying to get auto insurance on my van
I have tried American Fam. State Farm, Geico,
and so far no one will insure the vehicle for that biz.
and I have a perfect driving record, any help on what
or who you went with ?

THX
Rob

Go with an independent agent - they can shop for you.

State Farm, etc can only shop within their organization.

I have Progressive they should write you with no problem. I have a Tymco Sweeper plus pressure washing biz with them.

Rob... sounds to me like your insurance agent is blowing smoke up your ass. All he wants is a sale.

Go to your nearest Auto Owners Insurance agent and gt insured under janitorial for this business. It is priced right and when there is a claim to be dealt with, they don't screw around.

I have had them for years and they are much much cheaper than any pressure washing insurance company.

So many people don't know where to go with their insurance and there are people out there standing in line to take your money. I see the same thing happening in every facet of this business. Don't go with insurance that is not tailored to the needs of your business.

This is my opinion based on experience and research.

We also use Progressive for Auto... but we are in the process of consolidating all of our insurance under ONE carrier. You can save BIGTIME...in some cases.

Rick I did put it up for sale but at a time where I was hurting for money and since I am just getting that part of my business up off the ground it seemed like the thing to do. I decided to keep it though as the money is flowing a little better now. I was laid off from my full time job and in the middle of winter pressure washing is slow. The truck is the only thing I owe on as everything else is paid for. Things are much better now though. :)

Progressive ?

Hey All,
Thanks for the info, I called progessive and they said no problem
they quoted me $1400.00 a year that is for 50-100-50 for a 1987
E350 FORD VAN since it is only worth $3500.00 I went with liability
only. I bought the van because the body is in perfect shape and it only
has 33000 miles on it, I gave $3600.00 for it ? does that price for
insurance seem right ?
