goodyear neptune 4500psi hose vs our 4000psi hose

United Hose

I had a conversation today with a contractor who uses goodyear 4500psi pressure washer hose. the conversation was about why he should use our 4000psi hose.

he told me his to his door cost was $240 for a 150ft section.
i told him our to his door cost was $133 for a 150ft section.
he told me he think his hose will last twice as long.

this is an extremely debatable point as i think he might at best get 50% most life out of his hose than our hose but for the sake of argument lets assume he was correct.

so assume he gets one year out of his hose (extremely debatable point but lets use it as a reference point .) and lets assume he would get 6 months out of our hose ( which i know from contractor customers i speak with they get his life from our hose, some get 4 months some get 6 months it depends on usage factors)

cost of a goodyear hose is $240/252 working days = $0.95 per day for this 150ft hose
cost of a United Hose 4000psi hose is $133/ 126 working days = $1.05 per day for our 150ft hose

for $0.10 per day more for a year is it worth it in terms of worker productivity to drag around a 45lbs goodyear 4500psi hose vs a 30 lbs united hose 4000psi hose?

if goodyear hose lasts 50% longer (which could be reality) then not only would you be dragging around 15lbs less weight all day but you would save $0.20 day using our hose vs goodyear 4500psi hose

Steve just playing devil's advocate but from a business owners stand point $.10 a down is not worth me having two blow out instead of one. (ie. changing your hose out twice a year instead of once)

Like I said Devil's Advocate because personally i'm on the same two 150 ft sections of goodyear gray hose that I bought two years ago. I don't know why guys have so many problems

I am an example of Steve's thought process. I run about 2,000 feet of hose on my trucks. My local guys sells 250' of 2 wire 4500psi for $350 and it weighs 85lbs. Lasts 10 to 12 months on average. Steve's 250" of 1 wire is $200, weighs about 50lbs, is more flexible and last about 5 to six months. I like Steve's deal. My washing is different than others as we are up and down stairwells in apartment complexes and dragging hose across pavement and sidewalks all day. We use up a lot of hose.

Why use any hose that you know is 1/2 the life of something you use?
Best case scenario you are doing a job and that cheap hose fails without warning ( or less warning since the failure curve on something that will last 6 months vs 9 months will be more pronounced and more likely to happen quickly with less visible signs of a impending failure)
The hose breaks you now have 180 degree 3500 PSI water a 4 GPM pumping into a restaurant you are cleaning that is laced with a caustic downstream mixture you are using. What is that worth in personal liability, damage claims and lost work?
Stick with the best equipment you can get and cut corners on non-essental items.

Alexy, I understand where you are coming from, but I don't use hot water or clean inside. I am flowing about 400 psi and I don't care if a hose gets a hole in it. You can wash all day as long as you stay on the trigger. I prefer the light weight. I understand about buying the best you can and I probably have better equipment than most, but this was a choice based on not wearing out my guys and being more productive.

I think all hose is over priced. I have tried many, none last long enough, but hey I would last either if I was getting run over by cars, used 8-12 hours a day

I hate seeing a hose blow and it and you can still read the markings on it Arggggg $150+ and puff

I wish I bought more off Envirospec a year or so ago when they had that clearance sale, that was some good pricing

I bought about 600 feet of that Jeff, called back a few days later and found out you had bought the rest. I had two end repaired on some older hose and just got 2 ,ore rolls from Steve, so I have a 1000' in spare hose if you get in a bind and can't wait to have some delivered I'll meet you under the sombrero at South of the Border.

Hah. You should have been around to buy hose in the '70s. We used to get $3.00 per foot regardless of length.:shocked2:

I know a company that can taylor cut your hose to the length you want with no linking up multiple hoses on it.

who us?

don't tell me you didn't know we can make up any hose length that you want also any fitting you want.

Hose life seems pretty random to me - I've had goodyears blow early and no names last all year. I go for light weight now. Steve there's hose thats impregnated with polyethylene and is supposed to wear longer, know anything about that?

What is the leading cause of hose failure? For me, where its bent all the time at the wand - near your head when it blows! And probably the most where there is a little chink in the cover and it rusts there. I've had bare metal hose that lasted months but it gets sanded clean every night, that little hole in the cover though just rusts.

Hi Tom

there is a hose that has a pin pricked cover that is a polyurethane cover, is this the hose you are referring to?

regarding the blows at the gun; contractors tell me that is where the hose blows most often, maybe 70% of the time. what do you think of using a short jumper hose connected to the main hose it could be 3/8 inch 6000psi hose. this hose is flexible and yet with the high burst should last a long time.

you could connect it to the main hose using one hydraulic hose adaptor and not have the weight of a quick disconnect.

what do you think?

Its the Walmart World now. We all deal with it in our different businesses. Heck I remember when VCR's & DVD players use to be big bucks LOL

"Why use any hose that you know is 1/2 the life of something you use?"

because it is half the price and your productivity will increase which equals more profit for you
