Well its happening again here in the famous Hampton Roads Virginia, low ballers. There everywhere. No insurance hell dont even have a business liscence. You got to love it. If your from the area and reading this and your low balling. Call me, Im listed in the phone book. One story house for $40.00, Two story for $65-75. Give me a break. I would love to talk to you if your the one doing this. We're in the season now to make some money and ignorance is ruining this business in this area. Come on people get with it. Typical for a individual who does not have a clue about running a business in the first place. Have a great day everyone.Low Balling in Hampton Roads

Its not a bummer. Its going to get good around here. The EPA is hot in this area this year. So it will get back to normal. EPA will shut some down. Commercial jobs without reclaim. In VA thats the law, But only a handful follow it.

Hi Pete,
Hope you went to the Round Table in Va. Never heard how that one went.

Market yourself as the pro you are, mention insurance, and even be so bold as to inform the consumer that they should ask for proof of insurance. Show your prospects your proof when you give an estimate. Talk about the damage that can be done by someone who is untrained, and ininsured. You'll get the work. We have lowballers here in Md. too, and we are very busy. If you want to talk some more, call me. I'm HAPPY to help you, ANYTIME.

Pete I do what Beth mentioned to you but go a step beyond, I offer both a copy of my business license and cert. of insurance as part of my intro.

Handing that to the customer as you mention your 100% legal goes a long ways toward him/her asking the others to produce same papers. Most cannot and when that happens your pretty much in.

Now as for reclaim, the more you know about the fines the customers can be hit with the more they will listen and ask questions.

Can always tow your rig with you and ask if they would be interested in seeing just what is invloved.

Keep in mind never shall the low ballers be gone, they are a dime a dozen and will keep coming back, over and over so finding ways to out fox them at their game is what you need to do.

Here is one way, if the account is going to be a monthly tell them how much you would love to come by the day after the low baller cleans and do a strip right down the middle of the sidewalk.

Then the customer can see what you do compared to the cheap job he got.

Don't fret over the low guys, your above them and to worry about them is time wasted which you could be out doing something better with.

Pricing

Got a good one for you. In the paper today one advertisement reads: One story $40 two story $90. What a joke.

Run an INFORMATIONAL ad...

Talk about things sounding too good to be true...
Mention insurance, etc.....

Fight Back. Turn the tables on them.

YOU DO have something they DON'T have, right? You don't have to name them, just mention low price, inexpereinced, uninsured....

I have had this problem in the past. Most companies in my area are
reasonably close in price. Then you get the guy who will do it for next
to nothing. I tell customers who refer to the low priced guy to call
around to a few other companies. They will soon see that all of the
others are close except for this guy. I then tell them that something
probably is not quite right with this company. I once bid on a job to
clean and seal a deck at around $400.00. The low ball guy came in
at around $175.00. I told the customer to check out the price of deck
sealer and about how much it would take to do the job right. About a
week later the homeowner called back and I got the job.

My competition has lowered there prices somewhat this year. I am
keeping mine the same. I sell myself to the customer. That's how
you get the job.

Pete,
Have you noticed an unusual increase in roofs this year?
We have done more roof tops so far this year in just Chesapeake alone than we did in all of Tidewater last year!

But, as for decks...it has gone down...yes, the lowballers...how do they do it for less than we pay for just the sealer?
Even using Thompson's or Severe Weather, they still cannot be making any money!

Roofs

Good Morning AHR Tidewater,
Roofs cleaning is sky rocketed with me also. Three today in fact its crazy, decks Im letting the lowballers take them. I have lost money on decks this year also.
Have a good day
Pete
