Has anyone used the hot water source in back of restaurants for pressure washing?

I thought I would ask this in a separate thread.

I am worried about using the hot water source in the back of the restaurant because I don't know how hot it is and if it will damage the regular packings in pumps. I don't have the high temp packings, just the regular that they put in the Hotsy pumps. I need to find my laser temp gun so I can see how hot the water is next time so I know how hot it gets.

Has anyone used this hot water and nothing happened over the course of 6 months or a year or longer, not just 1 time or a couple times?

I am guessing that Paul, Russ J. or Jerry will know the answer.

Thanks.

I was washing a giant farm house and had to move my van to the other side. when i moved the only water supply was in a milking room. I hooked up there but I accidently hooked up to the hot water. after hooking up to the hot water the pump and unloader got burned, they both junked out almos instantly. the water was prettty hot, not sure of the temp but hot enough that i had a hard time handeling the hose. I would not take the chance.

I did it once. I hooked up to the hot water spigot by accident when I used to clean a Ruby Tuesdays. My machine has a safety on it and it shut down after less than 2 minutes. Had to run cold water through it to cool it down before it would even start back up. I tthought I blew my pump or something. Luckily it was fine once it cooled down. I never did that again!

We never ask why but when we brought our Hydro Tek we were told to not hook up to the hot water source either directly to the pressure washers or to fill our tank. I just assume it would ruin the seals in the pump.

Phil, one if Jeremy's helpers did that one night by and it melted an o-ring inside the unloader. He wasn't too happy about it lol.

Thanks Guys, I am glad I followed my instincts.

When I first started pressure cleaning, I accidentally hooked up to a water faucet that was hot water. It was 1:00 am and I was tired from working all day, I noticed more mist coming out from under the surface cleaner than normal but thought it was just due to cool temperature. After about five minutes the hose was getting pretty warm so I shut down the machine. The water supply hose was very soft. Well the end result was it ruined the seals in my ts2021, when the shop pulled the seals out they were swollen. The restaurant thought the water temperature was around 180.
I learned a lot that first year! 1 check and flush faucets, 2 you need hot water for commercial work, 3 don't work 18-20 hours straight.

There is nothing wrong with working 18-20 hours straight Mike. It's only after about the 16th hour that you realize all you're doing is spraying water around and you can't hit a piece of gum on the ground if your life depended on it.

Tony, how hot of water are those packings rated for in that pump?

Thanks.

Thanks Tony.
