Heavy pitch and oil out of concrete

Hi I am a new member and i have a job lined up at a pulp mill to remove very heavy pitch (softwood ie: spruce and pine) and oil stains off of a concrete floor. Will be using a caustic, hot water and surface cleaner for sure but just wondering if anybody has removed pitch to 1 inch thick in some places before, and what they used on it? Thanks Jetter

Hello Jetter,

Did you test before you quoted? If the material is that thick you will need to remove it before you can clean the concrete surface. Caustic may not work.

I have removed the heavy pitch by just blasting it away with my big unit, 20,000 psi 24 gpm but thought high temp and caustic would do the same.thanks Jetter

That sounds like one big machine. Whats the name of the pulp mill you are doing work for? I was wondering if it was an AbitibiBowater mill. I worked for them for a while. Just curious.

No. Not abitibi but they are in direct competition with them in the newsprint business, it is Alberta Newsprint Company.

How big of an area needs to be cleaned?

Will water everywhere be an issue?

Will hot water affect the sprinkler systems?

Does the floor have a drain?

How will you dispose of the pitch? Do they want you to haul it away yourself or can you put the remains in their dumpster?

Just wondering.

. That sounds like my dream pressure washer. Mind if we see a pic?

The pitch is in a small area around some PSV's floor has drains to a very large effluent system so not an issue. Large unit is inside a 35foot cargo trailer so hard to get pics but is a 300hp NLB unit. You can see at nlbcorp.com Thanks Jetter
